What is Art Nouveau architecture?
Arctuveau architectural style has evolved in Europe between 1890 and 1914. This style grew out of an uprising against classical ideals in architecture and art. It was based on the assumption that nature was the best source of inspiration and aesthetic principles or ideas about beauty. The main characteristics of architecture and art of Art Nouveau were curved forms and decorated ornaments with nature shapes. Art Nouveau styles were found not only in architecture and paintings, but also in decorative art, which is accessible to many people.
advocate architecture of Secev architecture turned against references to classic Greek and Roman standards, which were popular for most of the 18th century. They were led to throw away the strict and formal philosophy of art. Instead, architects who designed Art Nouveau buildings found inspiration in expressive lines and shapes of nature, especially from flowers and other plant life.
Curved Lines and Archles dominated the exterior of the architecture of Art Nouveau. An example is Casa Batllo in BarceLona in Spain, which was revised between 1905 and 1907 in the style of Art Nouveau. The exterior Casa Batllo has curved balconies similar to leaves. The lower part of each balcony has a floral design that can be seen from the street, and the lower floors have undulating arches. Casa Batllo does not have many direct or geometric shapes, because even the corners of the building are curved.
6 Guimard built a house for himself and his wife Adeline Oppenheim. The Guimard Hotel windows are protected by arches with root patterns. The large balcony at the top of the building has a complicated leather iron railing with floral elements. The entrance to the house has arcs asymmetric, floral patterns. Not only in external architecture was apparent Arctuveau, but interior design also showed its standards. Decorated moldings with embossed sculptures of plants, flowers and birds were characteristic of interior building. The common, winding staircases were also common.
The arctouveau supporters thought it was a non -Elitist style of art that did not meet the differences between fine arts such as painting and sculpture, and applied art as ceramics and metal. The Arctuveau style was applied to carpets, furniture, textiles, wallpapers, lamps and graphic design. For this reason, Art Nouveau was a style available for a large number of people.
