What is Arundin?

Arundina, also known as bamboo orchid, is a type of tropical orchid from Asia. The stem is slim and can grow to a height of almost 7 feet (2 m). Arundina flowers are light purple and white with darker purple lip. The flowers have a diameter of 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm) and bloom from the end of summer to autumn. The leaves of this plant are slim but long, capable of growing up to 7 inches (19 cm). The inner middle petal is wider and longer than the other petals to provide pollinators such as birds, butterflies and bees instead of landing. This petal is called lips or labellum. Once flowers have lived for a long time, and therefore are often not used in floral arrangements. The flowers are not in flower. Like bamboo, the bamboo orchid is tall, slim and has leaves with small vagina that connect the stem. Unlike bamboo, however, the bamboo orchid has solid stem and hollow grass. And finally, most bamboo plants flowers very rarely, sometimes at 120 -year -old intervals while bambooOrchid flowers every year.

Bamboo orchid comes from Malaysia, Singapore and several other Asian countries. Because of the destruction of rainforests, this kind of orchid in Singapore is almost extinct. Since 2010, only a few hundred plants of Arundina have grown naturally in the country. Plants that are left are often referred to as weeds tapah. In some parts of Malaysia, however, Arundina thrives as one of the most common plants.

Some places in the US, Panama and Costa Rica introduced Arundin because of the popularity of the plant. The plant has no nectar; Tamfore pollinators visit less often than plants carrying nectar. Without frequent pollination, Arundina spreads at speeds like the original plants. This means that the so -called tapah weeds can be introduced because their chances of becoming invasive species are slim.

This plant will best grow in warm climate with access to full sun, althoughcan tolerate a partial shadow. It will need enough water and rich soil. Because it is a very resistant orchid, it is commonly grown as an internal plant.
