What is Belted Plaid?

Belted Plaid, which is also sometimes called a large kilt, is a type of garment that came from the Scottish Highlands and is the forerunner of modern kiln. Belted Plaid also often passes through his Gael names either feilidh-MOR or Breacan-Feile . It consists of a large piece of fabric, some of which the wearer covers over the shoulder and the part of which it ovrates around its body in the fold and then secured either with a belt or pin. The term "Plaid" in Gaelic literally means "blanket" and traditionally fabric that Highlanders used for their belt plaid doubling as a blanket for sleeping. However, historians do not know the exact date of origin. Traditionally, it would consist of a piece of fabric of about 50 to 60 inches (127 to 152.4 cm) wide and anywhere from 3 to 6 yards (2.74 to 5.48 meters) long, depending on the size of the wearer and the availability of the substance. Most of the weaving states at the time were able to produce only a fabric of 25 to 30 inches (63.5 to 76.2 cm) wide, so the fabric of the belt plaid bY consisted of two strips of fabric stitched to achieve full dimensions. Current producers Belted Plaid will still usually sew two pieces of fabric together for authenticity.

The

cloth used by Highlanders was usually some form of tartan - a mixture of wool and bedding that produced a piece of fabric with a pattern of colored stripes. However, the Tartans, who were part of the belt plead, did not have an association of clan, which are common among Tartans today. The modern idea of the "clan tartans" became common at the beginning of the 19th century.

There is some discussion of the exact process that Highlanders would use to deploy Abelted Plaid. Some say they would organize the fabric in the folds on the ground and then lay on the fabric to wrap it. Others believe this is not true, because it is a cumbersome technique that would require the location of the substance on often wet and muddy soil. No matter what it must have been to put the pAssidic plaid pluid of a difficult and relatively lengthy process, especially compared to modern kilt.

For this reason, Belted Plaid is unusual today, with the exception of the celebration of the Scottish tradition. They appear on traditional events such as Highland Games, and some Highlanders have turned the dressing of a belt tutted to a performance to entertain tourists.
