What is Buddleja?

Buddleja is a genus of flowering semi -live plants previously categorized under their own Buddlejaceae family. The genus is now categorized as a member of SCROPHULARIACEAE, also known as the Figwort family. These plants were named after Adam Buddle, the English rector and the botanist who discovered them. The general name of these evergreens is the bush of butterflies, mainly because of their natural ability to attract butterflies. Most types of Buddleja can be found in Asia, America and South Africa. Panicles of tubular flowers reach a length of 4 to 20 inches (10 to 50 cm) and can either grow sparsely or compacted on the stems. Buddleja foliage plants consist of small to medium oval leaves that have become purpura brown during the winter and have a light green or gray underside. Shrubs of this kind can grow in a height of more than 10 feet (3 m). This plant comes from regions of northwest China and Japan.
