What is Calibracho?

Calibrachoa is a small genus of abundant flowering plants, which are often planted in gardens for decorative purposes. It has numerous flowers that look like little petunia and common names such as mini petunia and millions of bells referring to flowers. Calibrachoa was created in South America and is closely related to standard petunities. It tends to grow extremely fast and remains covered with flowers with the right conditions.

Calibrachoa is usually a low growing plant, which usually grows to a height of about 4 to 10 inches (10 to 25 cm) and can spread up to 24 inches (61 cm) wide. Light green stems are flesh and branching several times. The leaves are bright green with oval shape and fuzzy texture. The flowers are tiny with a narrow, bell shape, which at the end illuminates open petals. Flowers come in a wide range of colors including red, pink, purple and white.

It prefers a warm tropical climate with a lot of heat and moisture, but is able to prosper during warm seasons in areas with a slight climate.

In the gardens, Calibrachoa is used in flower beds, boundary or containers. Many gardeners prefer this in containers where it tends to spill on the sides in an attractive way. Hapopular are also baskets where it has an end effect. This plant needs a full sun to divide but produce more flowers in full sun. It should be connected at least twice a week and more often if the weather is very hot or dry. The soil should be damp with good drainage to avoid saturated.

For encouragement of a lot of flowers can be clamped, but that is not necessary. Calibrachoa does not produce many seeds, so it is easier to promote using cuttings from existing plants. Many varieties, however, are patented and it is illegal for the gardeners to promote them.
