What is Cercidiphyllum?
Cercidiphyllum, commonly called katsura, is a genus of plants that is part of the Cercidiphyllaceae family. It contains only two types, cercidiphyllum Japanese and cercidiphyllum magnificum , both of which are trees that come from Japan and China. They have heart -shaped leaves and long hanging branches. Fallen leaves have a pleasant scent that is similar to cinnamon or the smell of candy in cotton. This genus is ideal as a pattern plant. They translate into the "shuttle" and "leaves". It describes similarity to another family Cercis, which is commonly called the RedBud tree. The new leaves appear bronsed and gradually acquire a bright green color. During the autumn, the leaves turn into yellow, orange, and finally red. It is not known that this species produces flowers of any meaning, but sometimes small red flowers in the spring bloom. It is usually planted as a separate tree or as a landscape focus. The Katsura tree is an ordinary street tree in residential neighborhoods. Is also planted on the islands of parking lots and in the middleh highways.
As the tree grows, the branches tend to drop and can jump from heavy winds. Pruning is necessary to maintain a uniform shape and prevent overgrowing into sidewalks. Katsura tree can grow from a single trunk or more suitcases.
