What is Clematis?

Clematis is a flower known to many names. In some parts of the world, it is known as Traveler's joy, in others it is called the beard of the old person. Clematis plants come in as many shapes as they have. Some varieties of plants are shrubs and resemble herbs and large quantities are climbing wine vines. Whatever name and any form it has, Clematis is the foundation in many gardens.

There are almost 300 renowned varieties of the genus Clematis, with thousands of more unofficial hybrids and specializing between plants. For easy recognition and care, many Clematis types are often divided into three categories, based on when the plants should be cut. A group of flowers and at the beginning of spring and produces mainly small flowers. Flowers of Group B at the beginning of summer A consist mainly of hybrids with large flowers. Group C develops their flowers late in summer and early autumn and consists almost exclusively from the vine.

The name clematis comes from the Greek word for "climbing vines" and is originally used to describe the plant periwinkle and several other very different plants. However, the connection with the periwinkle has stuck, and that is the name of the color that is most often attributed to the Clematis plants. It should be noted that Clematis is in fact a member of the buttercup family and has no relation to the Periwinkle plant, which is a member of the Bane family.
