What is Dieffenbachia?

Dieffenbachia is a type of tropical plant from the Araceae family. Although toxic, they are most often used as houseplants because they are able to tolerate low light levels. The name applies to about 30 herbal plant species. Dieffenbachie leaves are usually in the shape of an oval and may have spotted, striped or spotted white or yellow patterns. Well adult dieffenbachie can grow to more than 5 feet (1.5 meters) high, and when they are raised like houseplants, they tend to lose their lower leaves to give a false palm effect. The common varieties of Dieffenbachie include Tropic Snow, Australian and Exotic Compacta. All varieties are sometimes referred to as "stupid cane" due to the numbing effect that the juice has on the mouth if it is accidentally used.

Dieffenbachia is spreading relatively easily. Sowers that grow from the base of the plant can be planted, the upper pieces of the plant can be removed and planted, or pieces of stem with nodes can be cut and planted. With anyOli from these methods should start to grow after a few days. The plant tolerates a high level of shadow and is not particularly susceptible to disease, making it popular diversity of houseplants, because it is quite easy to maintain alive. To keep the device outside, it usually needs temperatures of 40 degrees Fahrenheit (5 degrees Celsius) or higher throughout the year to survive.

Although Dieffenbachia is not susceptible to illness, certain insects, including mealybugs and cobwebs, is often attracted. Mealybugs can usually be removed with a cotton ball or a swab soaked in friction of alcohol. Spider mites can normally be killed by increasing moisture around the plant - mites tend to prefer hot dry air. Problems with the non-insect with which the plant may face may include yellowing leaves, which may be a sign that it is too bound to tropical plant; faded leaves that are often fromtoo large light exposure; and browning the leaves, which often indicates dry soil.

Because Dieffenbachia is toxic plants, ingestion of juice can cause burning in the mouth or neck, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and swelling in the mouth or tongue. Drinking milk after consuming juice can help alleviate some symptoms, but still need to be called. Eating too much can be for pets and children are fatal; Swelling of the mouth can block the airways and be fatal for adults also in extremely rare cases. The plant was named in honor of the German naturalist and doctor Ernst Dieffenbach.
