What is Epiphora?

When excess tears cannot drain properly, they often drip on the face. This condition is called epiphora, and although it can occur in humans and other animals, it is more often seen in dogs. The brownish colored tear tracks on the face are usually one of the most common symptoms of this condition. These tear spots can be removed, but it is also important to treat the basic cause of this condition. The common causes of the epifora include blocked tear channels or eye infections.

Natural tears are essential for eye lubrication. They help the lids to slide over the eyeballs and also help wash dirt and other eyes. Normally, other tears are discharged into the nasal passages, which are small tubes located in the corners of the eyes near the nose.

Tears stains caused by epiphora are usually brown or colored. This color is not caused by the tears themselves, but from microorganisms that grow in this area. Moisture and heat caused by overflowing tears are ideal conditions for the growth of a certain type of yeast.

other symptoms of epiphora may also be present. For example, some dogs may have a pus similar to the eyes. It can even dry out and become crunchy. Some dogs can also have red, irritated eyes.

Removing stions stains caused by this condition can be somewhat difficult. Some dog owners decide to stretch hydrogen peroxide and tear spots. That canE not only remove the stain, but can also kill harmful microorganisms that can infect the area. Although it can help remove dyeing, this method is not considered to be the treatment of this condition.
