What is Eucharis?

Eucharis is a genus of nearly 20 cowers in the family amaryllidaceae or amaryllis. Two types are grown garden. Both are known as the Amazon Lily, although they come from rainforests in Peruvian and Colombian Andes, and not from the Amazon area. These perennials are known for their distinctive white flowers and green leaves. They are grown as flowering and leaf plants in tropical shadows and as houseplants in colder climate. This relative of Amaryllis plants is quite demanding in its cultural requirements. It requires precise conditions for flowering, but is considered to be very attractive at flowering. White flowers are produced in a nodded cluster reminiscent of narcissus flowers at the end of two feet (0.6 m) of the stem. Its leaves are easily burned by the sun, so Eucharis is grown in the shade.

In order to reach the flower, the plants must be left for at least a month at 80-85 ° F (26,7-29,4 ° C). Then temperatures require at least 14 ° F (-10 ° C) lower. After being maintainedAt these lower temperatures for three months, Eucharis should bloom. It is important that temperatures are kept consistent or plants do not have to produce flowers. The Amazon lily can be brought to flowering twice a year if the soil can dry the moon after the plant is completed.

In the US, only two states are warm enough to grow this flowering plant outside. The Amazon lily is very sensitive to lower temperatures and does not survive freezing. It can be grown in South Florida and Coast California along with the border of southern California with Arizona. In these climate Eucharis is usually grown both for its flowers and as a ground floor.

leaves grow to two feet (0.6 m) tall, as a stem of flowers. The bulbs should be planted 1.5 to 2 feet (0.45 to 0.6 m) apart. Plants spread 1 to 2 feet (0.3 to 0.6 m). If it is planted in pots, one bulb should be planted on a pot for six inches (15cm) and covered with one inch (2.5 cm) of the soil.

Eucharis prefers moist soil that is rich in organic matter. It is tolerant of clay and acidic soil, but has low tolerance to salt. This plant is generally resistant to pests, but is prone to snails. If they are present in this area, it is important to the bait for them. The snail can quickly destroy the Amazon Lily plant.

These plants should be kept on the dry side during the winter. This has two advantages. One of them is that the bulbs are less likely to rot at colder temperatures. The second is that water reduction helps to cause flowering during the following season. Eucharis produces the most flowers when it remains to grow in cluuposlants, both in pots and outdoors.

Amazon lilies are usually insufficiently used plants for collections of tropical gardens and internal bulbs. White flowers are recommended as particularly attractive when grown against the leaves of the guest. If they are grown in the area of prone to frost,They can be grown in pots and brought in as the temperature begins to cool in the autumn.
