What is the flag stone?

Flagstone is a general description of the flat stone, which is most commonly used in the construction and landscaping. It is a sedimentary stone that is divided into thin layers, allowing it to be used in many applications. Flagstone is usually a sandstone that contains feldspar and quartz, often cemented together with calcium, silica oxide or iron oxide. It must not be confused with slate, which is a metamorphic rock, which consists primarily of clay or volcanic rocks.

appearance

Flagstone looks forward to many places with sedimentary stone, including Texas, Arizona, Pennsylvania and the west coast of Ireland. Where stone is formed and its primary binding materials are determined by the predominant color of the stone. The most common are red, pink, peach, chocolate and beige colors. It is also located in green, blue, gold and white. Some flag stone may have a record of its formation, with visible fossilized traces of sea worms and ancienit insects.

uses

color variety, versatility of use, wide availability, durability and beauty of the flag stone makes it the ideal material for use in a number of projects. It has a naturally non -slip surface. This makes it ideal for indoor and outdoor use. This type of stone can be used for many things, including tiles, roofing, fences, columns and facades. It is often used for terraces, sidewalks and even benches.

thickness and shape

The stone usually ranges from 0.5 to 2.0 inches (about 1.3-5.1 cm). Many experts recommend for surfaces that must carry any weight or have wear, a thickness of at least 1 inch (2.54 cm), such as those on which people will walk or sit. The boards are usually cut or distributed into irregular shapes. This can add to the beauty that many people find in the appearance of a random, less devised pattern of the flag stone or terrace.

Laying stone

MASON or DO-IT-YOURSELFER, who works with Flagstone, must rely on his artistic aspect and create a unique work of art. It can use pieces of stone as they are, and place them with small spaces between or could prune or break them for better fit. Flagstone can also be cut into squares for more adapted and patterned appearance. It can be broken and manipulated relatively easily due to its composition, but is still durable and durable.
