What is Grewia?

Grewia is a widely distributed genus of flowering plants, shrubs and trees. Some individual species were historically used for medicinal purposes and for food production. Species like g. Occidentalis are grown as decorative plants in different areas of the world. Nursery and garden catalogs are sometimes made available by commercially grown species, and people can also spread these plants from seeds and cuttings if they know gardeners who are willing to trade.

This genus belongs to the Mallow family. Grewia can be found native in parts of Africa, India, Australia and Southeast Asia. Plants tend to prefer tropical over subtropical areas depending on the species and some species are threatened due to the loss of habitats. Many islands in the Indian Ocean contain a number of unusual plant species, including members of this family, which are threatened by the development, invasive established species, and more human activity.

Members of this genus produce flowers in a range of colors including white, purpleand yellow. They usually have wide, flat leaves with slightly serrated edges. Some species are deciduous, while others are still green and Grewia is usually permanent. People who grow some species in cold climate can be treated as a summer house, allowing plants to die in autumn and spring.

Types

Grewia are fast growers who prefer rich, well -drained soil and full sun on shade. Mulching for root protection is recommended in colder climate and gardeners should remain on the emergency room for signs of infestation of insects and slugs. Some species attract birds and butterflies and can be a good choice for the garden designed to attract animal visitors. The species producing edible fruit can be cultivated for culinary and ornamental use.

Some of the Grewia types may have bark, flowers, leaves or roots with medicinal properties.Native people in some regions in some regions of this genus harvest and use medicinal components of different types for different purposes. Products made of these plants are sometimes commercially available in shops and shops that carry indigenous products.

Several named cultivars of specific species have been developed. These cultivars have been bred to cause lenses and are commercially available, except that they are trading gardeners. Some are proprietary cultivars with registered protections to prevent them from spreading or selling people other than the original breeder.
