What is Gypsophila?

The Gypsophila family of flowering plants consists of more than 100 species of annuals and perennials. They are best known for their use as filling in flower bouquets and are almost always combined with roses. One of the few white flowers that do not brown, as aged, are frequent accessories of dried floral arrangements. The common names for these ornamental plants include the breath of the baby and soap. Gypsophila was brought from Europe and Asia to North America in the 19th century. In many areas it has benefited and naturalizes and in some countries it is considered to be harmful weeds.
