What is Illicium?
Illicium is a genus of plants that is part of the Illiciaceae family. It contains about 40 species of evergreen trees and shrubs that come from America and western India. Most species have unique star -shaped flowers and thick shiny leaves. They are excellent specimens for forest gardens and borders. The problem that the garden commonly encounters about this family is the root rot, which is a fungal infection.
Gardeners choose shrubs from the genus Illicium for a number of reasons. The most visible is strong sheets that provide a good shadow and act as a screen to protect personal data for Windows. Another attractive quality of most species is the aromatic fragrance they release. Class also produces flowers that are somewhat unique. Illicium Floridanum in particular contains chestnut to purple flowers, which have 20-30 straps of leaves. Higher species that reach the Height 30 feet (9.1 m), such as illicium parviflorum , are generally used in the corners of the house. Shrubs that are 6-12 feet (1.8-3,7 m), such as Illicium Floridanum , can be planted with similar large shrubs in the border or cut as hedges. Smaller species are usually grown in containers or cold greenhouses.
Ideal for cultivation will allow shrubs to grow properly. For optimal growth, well -drained soil, which is rich in organic material, is usually required. It is recommended that the soil is also slightly acidic. The area in which the bushes are planted should have sufficient exposure to sunlight. Some species prefer shadow and disappear if they are exposed to too much sunlight.
Most types of Illicia are spreading or cherished. Cuts should usually represent the growth of the previous season. It should be taken early in the morning and stored in a cold, wet environment before placing in a growing medium.
The common problem between the bushes of this genus is fungal infections. Anthracnose is a fungusNatural diseases that affect leaves, stems, flowers and fruits of the bushes. Symptoms of infection include discharged lesions that are black or brown tissues that are curled or distorted. Another fungal infection that must be worried about is the root rot that is caused by a fungus. It damages the roots of the kera and prevents nutrient absorption. Eventually the leaves begin yellow and fall.
The risk of infections can be reduced by the correct soil conditions and irrigation techniques. Avoid irrigation over your head, which tends to spray fungal disputes into other areas. Also remove the residues of plants from the undergrowth to prevent the dispute from the next season.
