What is kohleria?

Kohleria is a genus of flowering plants in the family gesneriament . They come from tropical America. Kohleria is in the same family as African violets and requires similar care. However, the plants sleep during the winter, unlike African violets. Several cultivars have been created and Kohlerias is popular as inner houseplants. In its native habitat, it can grow to 2 ft (60 cm) high. The egg -shaped leaves are usually 3.9 to 4.1 (10 to 10.5 cm) and slightly less wide. Cultivars grown as houseplants are usually slightly smaller. They are tubular, they are bright pink on the outside and saw red inside. Most cultivars do not grow upright and are suitable for hanging baskets. Longwood cultivar has bright red flowers with a spotted neck, while others are white or yellow. It is generally from the end of winter to spring and summer. It is best if the lights are up to 18 inches (46 cm) from the leaves of the plant. These tropical herbs prefer a relatively warm temperature of 65-70 ° F (18.3-21.1 ° C) at nightand during the day 75 ° F (23.9 ° C) or more. They should be planted in the soil that has been changed by peat moss and sand. Plants should be fertilized monthly when they grow.

After flowering, the cohleria requires a resting phase during which it goes partially sleeping. Irrigation should be limited and fertilization during this time. However, plants should not be allowed to dry completely. The leaf is also supposed to be trimmed during this period.

At the time of planting, after a sleeping period, one should be a repotodej and dispose of the rest of the plant. Kohleria will survive the general humidity of the household, but, like most family members, Gesneriaceae prefers more humid conditions. Ideally, this should be grown on a tank with slots or containing pebbles, so that the water can accumulate and ensure moisture around the plant.

While many species are herbs, kahleria eerianthia is a cultivated shrub that roste on 4 ft (1.2 m) high. It usually blooms in winter and spring. Its orange red flowers reach 2 inches (5 cm), with yellow spots inside. There are also various cultivars of this kind.
