What is Krumping?

Krumping is a relatively new street dance form born in the streets of South Central Los Angeles. In an area known for a severe gang crime, dance is offered as an alternative means of expression of violence and is often strongly based on faith and spirituality. Krump is an abbreviation created by its founders, for Kingdom a radically uplifted powerful praise. In addition to the standard dance movements of Hip-Hop and Break, a large part of the influence on Krumping comes from another unique dance form of Los Angeles called Clowning, promoted by Tommy The Clown. The style is usually described as extremely aggressive movements, used as manifestations of extreme frustration and strong emotions.

The style of dance, as is today, was founded around 2000 or 2001 by several important dancers, including Li'l C, tight eye, big mijo, Slayer and Hurricane.
