What is patience?

Patience or Buntthorne's Bride is the operetta by Gilbert and Sullivan. Sir William Schwenck Gilbert wrote libretto and Sir Arthur Seymour Sullivan composed music. patience was their sixth operetta together, followed by pirates of pension .

Paitence premiere in London in Opéra Comique, Richard d'Oyly Carte's Theater, April 23, 1881. Unusually, patience was the second opening of October 10, 1881. The second opening, however, took the rear seat to the theater accessories: the theater was the first to be equipped with electric lights, which created great excitement.

Opera is unlike the study. Two aesthetic poets with contrasting views of WOO and milk called Patience. A group of dragons are trying to win their lady from their attachment to one of the poets. And as is often the case in Gilbert's work, there is an older woman, Lady Jane, who is set up as a foil for youth and the beauty of Ostathese women in production.

In the Act and from patience Bunthorne deals with twenty love gunher girls who have left their love for Dragoon to follow him, in a burlesque aesthetic doctrine. We find that Bunthorne is in love with patience, who is not interested in love or interest. Bunthorne, known to ladies, dragons or patience, is false, pretending to be Esthete to get attention. When Grosvenor, another poet and friend of patience patience, he and patience, he and patience, will restore and find out that they are in love, but according to the aesthetic doctrine, as patience understands, it would be too selfish, that it would be too selfish, and it would be too selfish.

Inact II, with Bunthorne, who has now spoken, all girls fall in love with Grosvenor who is not interested in their attention. Bunthorne's jealousy nEzná boundary and basically calls Grosvenor out and threatens to curse him. Grosvenor is happy to have an excuse of the urge to give up aesthetic attitude. Since Bunthorne is happy and is therefore less unpleasant, and because Grosvenor is now simple and everyday, and therefore is not perfect, the conscience of patience allows her to give up Bunthorne and marry with Grosvenor. Girls are returning to Dragoon and - based on the expectations set by the name - the end of the opera is that no one will be "Bunthorne's bride".

One of Gilbert's abilities was to transform his own works from one medium to another. This is true of operas that were based on a material that he first published in his ballads balady, including patience , which Gilbert realized from "rival curators". After changing opponents to poets, Gilbert used them to parody the current cultural phenomenon aesthetics, which had a great influence in art. In fact, Bunthorne, one of the two poets, was often considered to beEsthete Oscar Wilde aricature, although some think Bunthorne is more likely to be a folded figure.
