What is Physocarpus?

Physocarpus is a genus of flowering plants commonly called ninebark. Ninebark includes about ten types of shrubs similar to a tree. Many of these species are used for ornamental purposes and some often occur in the wild. Most species come from North America, especially around mountain areas in the United States, although one species comes from Asia. This genus is located in Rosaceae or Rose, family. They usually have clusters of small white or pink flowers that bloom in May and June. Flower clusters are generally 3-5 inches (7.6–12.7 cm) and fruit is usually red and berries that also appear in clusters. Multi-tags, with three to five lobe, maple leaves, width or spread of these plants are usually equal to their height. types of Physocarpus can be promoted cuttings or seeds.

However, the most significant aspect of these shrubs is the function that gives them their common name. Bark is generally yellowish orange or reddish -brown and peeling in large stripíchi. The bark of each species and branches are generally covered with peeling strips. Because of this constant peeeling, the bushes have nine layers of bark.

both Physocarpus capitatus or the Pacific Ninebark, and Physocarpus monogynus or Mountain Ninebark, commonly occurred in the northwest of the United States. Usually about 5 feet (1.5 m) high capitatus ranges from Utah and Montana in the United States to British Columbia, Canada. Although this species grows wild - sometimes under trees like sycamores - is often cultivated for gardens.

Monogynus is located along the rocky mountains and to Nevada. It is one of the smallest species in this family, reaches only a maximum of 4 fees (1.2 m) high. Not all North AmericanHowever, the species are found in Wester North America. Physocarpus opulifolius or a normal ninebark, ranges from Quebec South through Tennessee. This species can be 6-10 feet high (1.8-3 m) and is most often used in landscape and horticulture for grouping and bordering or as a natural screen.

Physocarpus amurensis or Asian Devnrebk is the only species in the genus that is not in North America. Asian ninebark is called Feng Xiang Guo in Chinese is primarily found in China and is often used for ornamental purposes. These shrubs are usually about 10 feet high (3 m).
