What is Raggedi Ann?

Raggeda Ann is a world famous fictitious figure and an ragous doll created by a talented illustrator and cartoonist Johnny Gruelle. Stories say that Raggedy Ann's candy comes to life when people don't follow and go to beautiful adventures with their brave brother, Raggedy Andy. Gruelle postponed his work and drew new, capricious facial features on a beaten fabric. From his library he pulled the book of poetry written by family friend James Witcomomb Riley and looked at the name of the poems. He combined "The Raggedy Man" and "Little Orphan Annie" and a doll called "Raggedy Ann" was born.

Johnny Gruelle patented a distinctive design for the character of Raggeda Ann in 1915.Ofessions, eventually to be signed with P.F. Volland Company, Child Publisher in Chicago, Illinois. In 1918 Volland published the first book Gruelle, raggeda Ann Stories . In the brilliant marketing move, Volland included every book corresponding to Raggedy Ann Doll. Rag doll with a red hair yarn was an immediate star.

Next year, a continuation called raggedy Andy Stories , which introduced America Raggedy Ann's Brother, a boys' rag doll named Andy, dressed in a sailor and hat. Gruelle managed to average one book a year for the next 20 years and gained a kind nickname "The Raggedy Ann Man".

Unfortunately, just before Raggeda Ann was introduced to the American public, thirteen -year -old Marcella tragically died of desert infected vaccination against smallpox she received at school without her parents' consent. Gruelles Becaja I was a vaccination rival and Raggeda Ann Doll was used as a symbol by the anti-voltage movement. Serial Johnny Gruelle "Adventures of Raggedi Ann and Andy" began in the American newspaper in 1922 and until 1934There were his stories about Raggians Ann in National Syndication. At the time he died in 1938, Gruelle's Raggeda Ann and Andy Dolls and Books were known worldwide. Raggeda Ann was so popular in America that she was introduced to the National Toy Hall of Fame in 2001, and her brother Raggedy Andy joined her five years later.
