What is Rose Campion?

Rose Campion, originally from parts of Europe and Africa, is now used as an ornamental plant in gardens around the world. It often grows to about 2 to 3 feet (61 to 91.4 centimeters) and adds a bright color to the landscape. Although its origin can be traced to parts of North Africa, southern Europe and the Middle East, this plant has naturalized in North America. The beauty of this plant has been recognized for centuries and has been grown as an ornamental plant since the 13th century.

Rose Campion is a two -year plant, which means it is a short -term perennial. Leaves, stems and roots are formed during the first year. After a period of dormancy in colder months it begins to bloom in second year and maybe even the third year. By the end of the third year, if some flowers have remained in the seed, new seedlings begin to appear and maybe bloom.
