What is Sapwood?

Sapwood tree is the youngest wood in the trunk of the tree and is located in the farthest rings. All wood that exists in a tree is currently or once sapwood. This is because the new wood is always Sapwood until it reaches a certain age and level inside the tree rings.

Most people are familiar with the age of the tree can be determined by the number of rings that count from the center of the trunk to the farthest edge. This is of course done after the tree is cut and a piece of its trunk is explored. Sapwood can be identified at this time.

Sapwood is identified compared to Heartwood. Heartwood is an older wood that is deeper in the trunk of the tree and near the center. This wood is sometimes darker and can be identified exclusively on the basis of its shade. None leads only water throughout the tree, but is also responsible for storing water and allocating the stored water during dry spells.

Because this kind of younger wood performs such an important function, more Sapwood is needed in larger trees. Also trees that grow very fast require more Sapwood than trees that have slower growth.

For the purposes of construction, many woodworkers prefer to work with Heartwood because it is much stronger. Heartwood usually has a richer color and is more attractive. Younger wood can be useful for some construction projects, but it is important to realize that it will never be as strong as Heartwood. In addition, because Sapwood leads water and core, it must be thoroughly dried before it can be used for anything.

Even after drying, Sapwood is much more likely to deform than Heartwood. For this Reason, if used for the project, must be used for something that can survive a little movement in the wood. Any piece of wood to last for a long time should be built of Heartwood, which is not only more beautiful colors, but also much more resistant than younger wood.
