What is Sarracenia?

Sarracenia is a genus of approximately ten species of permanent plants in the family sarracineaceae . They are carnivorous plants, originally from North America. So they get some of their nutrients from the trap and digestion of insects. Plants in this family are part of a larger category known as pitcher plants . The word pitcher concerns distinctive specialized leaves that often contain water and are used to attract insects for their death. Flies usually explore fake flowers and catch up. Plants have a wax surface that leads to water. This water contains a compound that makes the flies waxed. If one manages to escape the water, the walls of the pitcher are also wax and have hairs pointing down to help capture prey. Ants, for instances, are also attracted by the pitchers of the nectar trail on the leaf that leads to its entrance. Once they are inside, they are trapped in a similar way to the flies. As the insects decompose, they release antic acid into the environment inside the pitcher.

It seems that plants do not contribute to digestion of insects. It is assumed that bacteria that live in water provide proteases - enzymes that break down proteins - and other compounds that degrade insects. Ants from ants reduce the pH of water. This helps help digesting plants of errors.

Sarracenia lives in wet areas known as Bogs, especially in areas composed of Sphagnum Moss, which has a low pH. Most species of Sarracenia live in warm areas of the southeastern United States. The exception is the purple pitcher, sarracenia purpurea . It can grow to Severjako Canada and has been introduced to Europe where it has become naturalized.

purple pitcher plants are a commonly sold carnivorous plant. It comes in different varieties. Those with red leaves are particularly popular.

Planting medium plant should be peat peat, ground for fine powder in combination with waterbecause the swamps have a very low level of minerals, soaking plants of water water, which contains many of them, commonly known as hard water , the plants will gradually kill. The best water for use is rainwater, distilled water or water from reverse osmosis of the filter. The pots should be left in the water, so the plants are always wet.

The amount of desired sunlight varies depending on the area, but the pitcher plants can survive under artificial light. Plants maintained inside should be fed insects. They can be purchased in PET stores that normally bear crickets. Pitters in the garden attract a lot of insects and non -regituiire other feeding. Folished should be sprayed with diluted acid fertilizer.
