What is super g?

Super G is short for super giant slalom and is an alpine ski event combining downhill skiing with navigation through slalom courses. Sport first became popular in the age of 70 and premiered as an event of the World Cup in 1982. It requires skill in both downhill skiing and slalom and is perhaps one of the most intense alpine ski competitions. Significant speed and accuracy are important because there is no turn around the gate made from two poles, immediately disqualify the competitors.

There are some differences between Super G and slalom. The angle of the slalom course is less serious than the angle downhill. Furthermore, skiers must ski part of the race in a tucked or downhill position to increase speed. The gates are further apart, because higher speeds mean that the gates too close would be omitted. Ski slalom is allowed two runs with a combined score, while Super G races are rated only on one run. There are less gates: OBAbout 35 for men and 30 for women, unlike up to 70 gates for men, and 55 gates for women in traditional slalom.

Super G also has differences from the downhill. Although the race is on the hill, it is shortened for this event. Skiing in a tucked position at all times cannot be navigated by suitable turns, so the speeds tend to be slower. As in slalom, skiers can control, but do not have to take practical course runs from any competition.

Skiers from Europe, with Hermann Maier of Austria, many considered the best, fastest and most accurate skier who has ever tried to event, dominated SPECIAL SPECIAL G. MAIER at the World Cup and impressive 23 wins.

most experts skiers like Maier, Peter Muller and Kjetil Andre Aamodt, who won three Olympic Super G gold medals, skis at speeds that are almost incomprehensible whenapplied the added factor of the gateway. For practiced athletes in this sport, it is not unusual to reach a speed of 55-60 mph (88.51-96.56 km / h) when they fly down the hills. This is still slower than speeds downhill, which can approach over 90 mph (144.84 km / h).

Unlike many other sports, where only young people, those from their teenagers or in the early 1920s, remain strong enough to win, there are many super g skiers who have stayed in sports for many years. Aamodt won his last gold medal at the age of 35 at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games.
