What is synthetic grass?
Synthetic grass is an artificial surface designed to resemble natural grass. Although it should have a natural appearance, it is produced using only synthetic materials. It is also harder than natural grass. The first widely known use was to cover the soil of the Astrodome in Houston, Texas in 1965, and that is where the name Astroturf® came. False grass, however, became more and more popular for use in private lawns.
In the 1970s. Despite their comfort, players and viewers still often prefer natural grass. This is largely because the original synthetic materials did not respond in the same way as natural grass, and because its relative stiffents caused to be further injured.
Today, advances in the development of synthetic grass made it a desirable alternative. Infusion of synthetics with materials such as sand and rubber has helped the grass to get a more natural look and alsocaused to be safer for sport. In fact, it is now considered a safer alternative to natural grass while playing in cold weather.
Many sports arenas finally decided to remove their synthetic grass after a bad reaction of fans and players. For improved formulas, however, many of those who originally removed them are used again. Similarly, the arenas that stuck with Astroturf® replace it with new and improved modern materials.
Improving the appearance and feeling of synthetic grass to a large extent contributed to increasing the use of residential lawns. By using its homeowners, they can enjoy the look of a healthy, green, perfectly maintained lawn throughout the year. In addition, false grass requires minimal maintenance, making it much more comfortable and less expensive than natural grass.
