What is Tartan?
Tartan is a fabric that is woven with a range of stripes in different widths and colors set at right angles together. In some parts of the world, this formula is called "Plaid". The characteristic controlled Tartan formula is closely associated with Scotland, which for centuries Tartan. In fact, most cultures demonstrate the history of weaving textiles with controlled patterns because it is relatively easy to weave and also quite striking.
The word comes from the Latin word Tyrius for the "substance". Tartan can be woven with any textile, although the wool is common because it takes the dye well and also insulates the body in the cold areas of the world where Tartan is popular. The wave can also be woven in different thicknesses, allowing people to wear more light woolen tartans in warmer weather. Tartan can also be made of laundry, cotton or silk. Tartan is usually worn with neutral colors because the bold blocks in the color pattern have a clashes for clashes. Comes from the Gaelic word, Plaide , which means "blanket". In other areas of the world, Plaid is a general word for the Tartan formula. In many of these regions, "Tartan" is associated with Scottish clans, while Plaid is a versatile name for any type of controlled fabric. This can lead to some confusion, but the intended meaning is usually clear from context.
Association of specific tartans with specific clans began formally in the 18th century. Originally, each area of Scotland had a regionally specific tartan formula. The clans that dominated each region slowly accepted these tartans to represent their specific family and region, and in 1815 the registration of individual clan tartans began. Tartan also became a symbol of Scottishitage and pride and is still associated with Scottish culture.
Many sewing shops sell tartan fabric for sewing and crafts. Clothing made of tartan pattern is also easy to dodegrees in many shops, in the form of skirts, jackets, pajamas and everything in between. People with Scottish heritage who want to celebrate it sometimes research their genealogy to determine whether they have a clan tartan or which tartan would be worn in their area. Tartan research can sometimes reveal an interesting and colorful history, along with the family coat of arms.
