What is the American basketball association?

The American Basketball Association (ABA) was a basketball league that created in 1967 and eventually became so successful in 1976 with the National Basketball Association (NBA). Of these 12, four financially successful teams were absorbed: New York Nets (later New Jersey), Denver Nuggets, Indiana Pacers and San Antonio Spurs. Players who signed with the ABA teams were often an athletic player with a high flying player who fit more into ABA style than in the NBA. Some of the biggest stars of the American basketThe Ball Associations - many of which continued the NBA after merger - were Julius Erving, Billy Cunningham, Rick Barry, Connie Hawkins, David Thompson, George Gervin, George McGinnis, Spencer Haywood, Artis Gilmore, Dan Issel and Moses Malone.

The American basketball association is also attributed to the creation of a 3-point line, which later became the basis of all levels of basketball and which helped open the game and make it more fun. In its last season 1976, the Tamerice Basketball Association presented the Slam Dunk competition in its star game. NBA did not start its own Slam Dunk competition until 1984, but became one of the most popular events of the league. ABA also used red, white and blue basketball, but it could not be captured anywhere else.

While financial suffering eventually condemned the American basketball association, its level of play helped to force the merger with the NBA.
