What is Aza?

The

Association of Zoo and Aquariums (AZA) is a non -profit organization based in the US and was founded in 1924, offering the accreditation of zoos or aquariums that follows AZA standards, submitted for accreditation and submits a team of inspectors. The zoo and aquariums that want a stamp of AZA approval must achieve certain standards in the following areas: animal care, public education, participation in nature protection programs and after the last scientific development, or is at the forefront to improve animal care, education and protection. Almost a tenth of American zoo and aquariums meet association standards. Moreover, the remaining accredited is an ongoing process. Places that take care of animals must meet standards and usually administer accreditation over a period of time. The zoo and the aquariums must re -send to the insights, show Improsviments and keep up with the latest science to maintain their position.

There may be a rapid loss of accredited condition if the zoo has not adhered to AZA standards. The event in 2007 also questioned how carefully AZA looked at the application of various animal care procedures in zoos. At the end of 2007, three boys were attacked and one killed by a refugeed tiger at the San Francisco Zoo. Given that the investigation later showed that the tiger retention equipment does not meet the current safety standards of AZA, although they accredited the Zoo in San Francisco. The height of the wall over which the tiger could escape was much lower than they require safety standards. Further investigation has shown that the nearby Oakland Zoo also had a much lower wall for its large cats than the required association, although it is also accredited.

Failure to provide safe housing to protect animals and humans, seems to be a very large hole in AZA administration to your standards. This devastating attack even though it was a partFor the provocation of the tiger of the zoo guests, it suggests that the zoo and aquariums must be more active in meeting safety standards and that the associations must work in a more complete investigation manner to avoid accreditation of an institution that violates such standards. This incident should not completely ming a large part of the good work that the association is doing, and people are probably safer and animals that they will take care of in an accredited zoo.

On the AZA website, you can search for zoo and aquarium by state if you decide to support this non -profit organization. In the main and, despite the incident in San Francisco, and perhaps the accreditation can indeed mean that you are visiting the zoo or the aquarium that has committed itself to the health and well -being of your animals, its guests and efforts to conserve nature. This incident, if something is likely to evoke more investigations and reactions of accredited zoos and associations.
