What is the Baroque suite?

Baroque suite refers to the ensemble of music dances together in the group during the Baroque period, between approximately 1600 and 1750 in Europe. Usually four pieces were combined to create an apartment, although any number of dances can be used. All pieces included should be played in the same key. In summary, the apartment focused on creating instrumental music that was purely for listening to entertainment and not dances, and had a significant folk element.

Most of the Baroque apartment music used four different dance pieces. The classic form was created in France and incorporated Allemande, Courante, Sarabande and Gigue. Optional dances that could be used in the Baroque set include Gavotte, Minuet and Passepied. CHACONNE, PASSACAGLIA and BOURREE DANCE can also be used less often. Some of the most famous Baroque apartments include the Water Music Apartments folded by George Frideric Handel, which is still played by modern musicians. The apartment he created had different dances. Handel is said to have written an apartment so dances can be played in any order.
