What is Ashurah Day?

Day Ashurah, also known as Muharram 10, is a day to remember that Muhammed's martyr's grandson Husayn (also speaking Hussein) Ibn Ali, on the day of Abraham was born, on the day of Noah's Ark touched, and on the day Kaaba was built. Ashurah, sometimes spell -spelled Ashura, always occurs on the same day in the Islamic calendar - Muharram's first month, the first month in the Islamic year. This generally places this Islamic holiday near Yom Kippur Jewish.

Shia and Sunni Muslims, two different sects in Islam, interpret this day differently. For the first day, Ashurah is of great religious importance due to the death of Husayn Ibn Ali. Shia Muslims are considering Ashurah a day for fighting injustice, oppression and tyranny because Husayn fought and died for a fair government. To mourn Hysayn's death, Shiite Muslims make pilgrimages to Husyn's tombs that are found in Iraq Karbala. Mourning rituals were known to include beating chest and cutting razor blade andknives to remember the blood spilled in the battle of Karbala. Various Fatwas prohibiting the practice of this habit have been published. Instead, many donate blood. Later, because of fasting that takes place during Ramadan, fasting on Ashurah Day was no longer required, although it is recommended.

with increasing religious and political differences between Shiite and Sunni sects, Day Ashurah often causes bloodshed in countries such as Pakistan, Iran and Iraq. Given the strong political importance, nowadays Hussein has banned his memory in Iraq. In 2004, when Shias managed to commemorate this day since Saddam Hussein lost power, the bombing killed and hurt several.

Historically, day Ashurah often caused bloodshed around the world. In 1884, in Trinidad and Tobag, British colonialists killed 22 people who tried to perform rituals ashurah known as Hosay. In Iran had a ritualY Ashurah of great political significance during the Lebanese Civil War and the rebellion in Bahrain, which occurred at the age of 90.

The word ashurah in itself means "tenth" because the day Ashurah occurs on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar. While in modern times this day came to mean violence and bloodshed, according to Islam, this day is to heal too much. One of the beliefs is that if one stays up throughout the ninth Muharrama, he gets a big blessing. It is said that other rituals will cure physical disease.
