He considered an important part of the biblical canon mostly of the last days, doctrine and treaties have a special place in the worship and theology of the LDS and community Christ. Containing writings that define many unique beliefs of faith, doctrine and treaties provide a mechanism for both churches to confirm and practice their faith in the open canon of Scripture.

One of the unique characteristics of the faith of the last day is the concept of the ongoing corporate revelation. The President of the Church is essentially responsible for providing membership in the Council inspired by the Divinity. In the earliest years of the movement were written records of the statement of church President Joseph Smith, Jr., in the periodicals of the Church and referred to as revelation. During the year and a half of the formal organization of the Church, the members expressed the desire for these revelations of Be published in book form.

The first attempt to assemble premature revelations began in 1831 and was approaching to complete when the press printing was destroyed on July 201833. This efforts to organize and disclose apparent documents entitled The book of the commandments were not revived until 1834, when the management of the Church allowed a second attempt.

on 17. August 1835 was a completed work that became known as the doctrine and treaties, presented by the General Assembly of the Church. Each front quorum approved the writings contained in the volume and the members in the presence voted to accept the book as a font into the church, along with the Holy Bible and the book of Mormon. Each revealing document was marked as a section and assigned a number. The ability to refer to the section by the number was facilitated by a reference to specific sections in the sermon and press published by the Church. The later edition organized the text of each section to the verses, which improved the ability of key passages to cite speakers at church meetings and for quotes to be used in educational and devoted materials.

after the fragmentation of the lastThe Holy Movement in 1844 decided not to support the doctrine and contracts as part of the canon received. However, the volume continued to be the script for the Church of Jesus Christ and the Community of Christ. Each church publishes its own version of the doctrine and contracts, sharing both editions of about a hundred sections in common. It is worth mentioning that the Edition Community of Christ Edition continues to include the legitimate section of 1835 on marriage in which monogamy is confirmed as the standard of marriage in the Church. The LDS edition does not include this section and contracts and the church rarely grind new sections.

On the other hand, the Christ's community has added a number of sections since 1844. At its World Conference 2007, Christ's Community allowed the integration of a new part, which is understood as an inspired council provided through their current president, which will determine the new addition as Section 163.
