What is Easter Vigil?
Easter vigil is a Christian ritual that occurs the day before Easter Sunday. The service celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ and is the first service to celebrate Easter holiday and the culmination of Lent. Each designation has different traditions associated with service, but some traditions, such as the lighting of the Paschal candles and baptismal services, are common to many churches. Although not all forms of Christianity celebrate Easter vigilia, it is common in the Roman Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Lutheran and Anglican Churches.
In most churches, the Easter vigil takes place after sunset on Saturday just before Easter, a day often known as "holy Saturday". Soon the beginning of Easter celebrations dates back to ancient traditions, where religious holidays actually started at sunset the day before the official festive date. This tradition is an echo at the Saturday celebration in Jewish traditions, where the weekly Saint Day starts at sunset on Friday and continues throughout Saturday.
eachThe church can use various biblical values to celebrate Easter Vigil. They can be drawn from different Bible books, including Genesis, Exodus and Christian Gospels. In many cases, reading involves the narrative of Jesus' resurrection, usually described by the story of his followers who come to find that his tomb is empty. This event is the basis for Christian Easter celebrations and the stories of resurrection are told only at Easter vigil and subsequent Easter celebrations.
Easter vigil is an important ceremony not only for biblical reading, but for unique traditions celebrated only in this service. One of the common ceremonies is Easter or Paschal Cand, a large candle that still burns throughout the year, and is replaced every year for Easter. The candle is usually an extina of Good Friday as a symbol of the death of Christ and did not explain to the vigil. The new candle is usually illuminatedMO church, from a fire that blessed church officials. The parishioners follow the illuminated candle into the darkened church and can carry small dentists lit from the same fire. In some churches, the whole service is only carried out by candles.
Since Easter is a symbol of rebirth and reconnecting to the Church, many denominations also celebrate the baptism, recipient of the first reception and candidates to confirm this service. Since each of these ceremonies serves as a rebirth in the eyes of the Church, it is considered to be integrated into the Easter vigil. In other seasons, these ceremonies may be carried out privately and are usually not integrated into common worship.
