What is Lindy Hop?
The Lindy Hop, a rocking dance that first appeared in New York at the end of the 20th and early 1930s is a unique style of movement that combines elements of both partner and solo dances. It is assumed that the dance was given in honor of the famous aviator Charles Lindberg. The basic step used by Lindy Dancers is called swingout . Each dancer plays separately in an open position, then the couple connects to dance in a closed swingout position. Steps in Hop Lindy can be closely compared to those in Charleston, detachment, Texas Tommy and Hop.
Since Lindy Hop was taught informally among the small groups of dancers, the exact style of each performance may vary significantly. It seems that some Linda dancers are inspired by Frankie Manning and other African-American dancers from Savoy Ballroom, while others have steps that seem to remind white dancers from the west coasts such as Jewell McGowan and Dean Collins. Occasionally these two styles are described as Savoy in STYLU Lindy Hop and Hollywood style Lindy Hop.
In general, Lindy Hop is associated with the music arrangements of large bands of artists such as Lionel Hampton, Count Basia, Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald, Chick Webb and Benny Goodman. At the end of the 90s, however, Lindy Hop was also an important part of the revival of Neo Swing music. Under certain circumstances, you can even see Lindy Hop a rhythm and blues, soul or hip hop music.
Today, Lindy Hop has won a permanent place in the United States as part of pop culture. Dance is performed socially in many nightclubs and there are many cities that regularly have dance competitions highly promoted on various Internet forums. Lindy Hop is also prominently presented in the music video for Christina Aguilera Song Candyman .
Although Lindy Hop is best known in the United States, it is worth noting that dancing has a follow -up worldwide. LindY HOP is practiced regularly in England, Russia, Scotland, Ireland, France, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Germany and Switzerland. In fact, the Harlem hot shots run a highly respected dance camp that teaches people in the small Swedish village of Herräng.
