What is oncilla?

Oncilla is a type of small wild cat found in wooded and junglic areas of South America and a small part of South Central America, especially the Highland Course. Its scientific name is leopardus tigrinus, , but is known by a number of other common names, including tiger cats, small spotted cats and Cunaguaro, among other things. It is one of the smallest of wild cats and a fully adult adult has a similar size to the average cat in the home, although usually weighs less than £ 6.6 (3 kg). They have beautiful coats that resemble Leopard, with a lighter basic color stain with dark spots. These cats are considered to be endangered as a species and are under pressure to reduce habitat and are severely hunted for their fur.

Central and South America have several species of small wild cats and Oncilla is considered one of the most beaumium. Has a very strong, rich, short -haired coat with the basic color tanned orRuddy yellow, which is strongly spotted with dark spots brown or black. The basic color and stains disappear to a much paler shade on the underside of the animal, while the spots become irregular stripes or belts as they approach the head and face. It is large, wide -set eyes are brown or gold and its tail is very long and decorated with irregular dirty stripes. Paws are relatively wide for the small size of the cat and the pattern of places continues directly on the fingers and gradually shrinks.

These cats are found in a number of types of habitats, but prefer Highland forests than in lowland jungles. Sometimes they inhabit grassy areas and even semi -dry shrubs. They share habitats with other cats such as leopards and other small cats. Their small size allows them to coexist with other species, because they rarely compete for the same prey. Oncilla also seems to adapt to the intrusion of humanctivity better than some other types if entering their habitat doesEST and cocoa plantations that actually create an opportunity to study these animals.

In building, Oncilla is proportional to a strongly built leopard rather than an elegant cheetah, albeit on a much smaller scale. They are excellent climbers and spend part of their time on the trees, but tend to hunt on the forest. They are part of a group of animals called the duty of carnivores, which means that they must consume meat as a primary part of their diet. They are opportunistic hunters and, depending on their specific region and habitat, can hunt rodents, small birds, lizards or even tree flip flops. They tend to hunt at night, but may be active during the day depending on their primary prey and its habits.

Oncilla exhibits in some areas cross breeding with a similar species. About this process and how it affects the involvement of species or whether hybrids are fertile and reproduce back to other populations of both parental species. Among the species that are known to be thatThey are with Oncilla, include Geoffroy's Cat and Pampas Cat. At least four subspecies of these cats are known, their distribution corresponds mainly to the wide geographical regions in which they are found.

In many countries, oncilla is protected, but in some areas hunting is still allowed. Nature protection groups continue to work to help keep the animal and habitat in many regions. Efforts to breeding to reduce worldwide trade with Oncilla Pelts is just one of these efforts.
