What is Wicca?

Wicca is a religion celebrating land and nature that celebrates the cycle of the year and duality of divinity. Wiccans celebrate eight holidays; Two suns, two equinoxes and four other holidays roughly the same way throughout the year. These holidays are called Sabbats .

Wicca, which some called "witchcraft", was popularized (or maybe invented) in the middle part of the twentieth century by Gerald Gardner. Today he wrote a book entitled Witch, which was published in 1954. In the book, he claimed that he discovered the survival of ancient pagan religions that still practice. Most practical pagans today monitor their claim for survival and celebrate rather revival (or at least the reconstruction of the best punishment) pre -Christian religion.

Wiccans believes that the deity is both male and women and, as such, the gods and goddesses that represent a certain aspect of the deity. Some Wiccans decide not to use the deity to visit and speak instead of the "creative force of the universe" or similar phrases. AnyWomen decide to follow the Wicca version that completely downplayed or ignores the divine aspect, in response to what they consider to be a "masculinization" of traditional religions.

Wiccans can practice with a group called Coven or separately, in which case they are called "solitaries". There is no central Wiccan or canon authority, with each group or individual to decide what their practice is. Note that many of these groups can claim to practice the only "true" Wicca. One of Wicca's best overviews was written with regard to Solitaria; Scott Cunningham's Wicca: A Guide to Lonely Doctor .

Wiccans and most other neopags believe, along with many Eastern religions that there is a universal force in everything. Wicplellites believe that this power can be manipulated through the act of will - that is the basis for Wiccan Magic (or Magick , a preferred spelling that was supposed to distinguish it from the prestidigitation of the magician.)

Wicca's foundation for ethical behavior is in Wiccan Rede, or rule: "And (if) it harms, do what you want." The "Harst none" qualifier puts Wiccu in the same camp with Buddhism and other religions that believe in non -violent. The three -fold law further states that anything you send to space, be it good or bad, you can expect to return to you triple.

Unlike the common Wiccans faith, they do not respect or believe in the devil. Wicca does not recognize any personification of evil. Certainly there are people who wear black and called Satanists and wear Pentacles (Wiccan symbol), but are generally not considered Wiccans.

It is true that many young adults and adolescents are initially attracted to wicce as an act of rebeling the opposite belief of their parents. And Wicca is not immune than any other belief to abuse by the strong personalities who need followers to control.

The number of people who identify themselves as Wiccan or other non-opag religions are still increasing, there are wiccan chaplains who have a pagan population in prison and serve in the army.
