What Is a Clamp-on Meter?

Clamp meter (sometimes also called clamp meter, clamp meter) AC / DC clamp meter is also used as one of the necessary testing tools in routine maintenance. It is mainly used to test voltage, current and frequency related parameters Higher test resolution, test accuracy, and more test functions.

Clamp ammeter
1. Read the instructions carefully before use to find out whether it is AC or AC / DC.
2. The voltage of the circuit under test cannot exceed the value indicated on the clamp meter, otherwise it may easily cause grounding accidents or cause electric shock.
3. Only one phase conductor current can be measured at a time. The conductor under test should be placed in the center of the clamp window. Multi-phase conductors cannot be clamped into the window for measurement.
4. Before measuring the clamp meter, you should estimate the magnitude of the measured current, and then decide which range to use. If it is impossible to estimate, you can first use the maximum range and then change it to a smaller value for accurate reading. You cannot use the small current range to measure large currents. To prevent damage to the meter.
5. The jaws should be closed tightly during the measurement. If there is any noise after closing, you can open the jaws and close it again. If the noise cannot be eliminated, check it.
Clamp-type ammeters are divided into high and low voltage, which are used to directly measure the current in the line without disconnecting the line. The usage method is as follows: (1) When using a high-voltage clamp meter, pay attention to the voltage level of the clamp-type ammeter. It is strictly prohibited to use a low-voltage clamp meter to measure the current of the high-voltage circuit. When measuring with a high-voltage clamp meter, it should be operated by two people. Non-duty personnel should also fill in the second type of work ticket. During the measurement, they should wear insulating gloves and stand on insulating mats. Do not touch other equipment to prevent short circuit or grounding.
(2) Watch the meter, pay special attention to maintaining a safe distance between the head and the charged part. The distance between any part of the human body and the charged body must not be less than the entire length of the clamp meter.
(3) When measuring on a high-voltage circuit, it is forbidden to use a wire to measure from another meter of the clamp ammeter. When measuring the current of each phase of the high-voltage cable, the distance between the cable head and the wire should be more than 300mm, and the insulation should be good. Only when the measurement is considered convenient, can it be performed.
(4) When measuring low-voltage fusible fuses or horizontally arranged low-voltage bus currents, each phase of the fusible fuse or the bus should be protected and insulated with insulating materials to avoid short-circuits between phases.
(5) It is strictly forbidden to measure when one phase of the cable is grounded. Prevent the danger of personal safety caused by the low level of insulation of the cable head due to the breakdown of the ground.
(6) Pull the switch to the maximum range after the clamp ammeter measurement is finished, so as not to accidentally overcurrent the next time it is used; it should be stored in a dry room.
