What is a wire gauze?
Wire gauze is a number of scientific laboratory devices that are used primarily in conjunction with other devices, most often as a supportive structure and heat diffuser. There are several varieties for various specific applications on the market. This material has other applications outside the laboratory, in industry areas, improvement of home and art and crafts. There are two main varieties of metal gauze. The more common variety consists simply of a network such as a network of connected strands of wire. The second type is made of composite material and consists of wire strands with ceramic internal cores. Both varieties are made of many different wire meters and with a number of different patterns and sizes in the metal network.
In the scientific environment, the wire network is most often used to facilitate even heat transfer. Metal and ceramics in metal gases transmit heat very evenly and efficiently. As a result, the beaker placed over the burner Bunsen and either placed or wrapped in wire gauze, absorbs the heat evenly and the ephekmore tive than a beaker held over a naked flame. This feature is particularly useful in controlling complicated or fine reactions, in which it is very accurate and even warming essential for successful maintenance of the desired chemical reaction.
The ability of wire gauze to spread heat evenly has other uses. For decades, the miners have relied on safety lamps protected by a layer of wire gauze. Very fine wire mesh allowed to flow air and feed the flame of the lamp, but dispersed heat from the flame, which prevents explosive mining gases from ignition.
This type of metal network also has other applications. The rigid metal gauze is useful as a filter in many different settings. Wire mesh is used to capture sediment from water supply lines. Fiber filters on common Householud dryer use the version of the wire gauze. Scientists can use wire gauze to filter products of chemical reactions, stress sittingMent or other reaction products.
Metal gauze is a robust and flexible material and can be used as a base for various art and craft projects. When creating plaster and casting, a fine wire network is useful and larger versions of wire gauze are often used in construction projects. Fencing of the chain is basically a wire gauze on a very large, very rough scale.
