How do I Choose the Best Digital Pen?

The pen nib is the soul of the pen. A lot of knowledge about the nib. The tip of a good pen is usually made of good stainless steel or K gold. Generally 10K, 12K, 14K, 18K and 21K, but there are also 8K gold.

Generally, the pen manufacturer will mark the nib size and type on the nib. Generally marked EF, F, M, B, BB are standard nibs. If labeled as OM, OB, OBB, it is a skewed tip.
There are five common nib sizes, ranging from thin to thick:
EF = XF = Extra Fine nib width: 0.24mm ~ 0.28mm
F = Fine Width of nib: 0.28mm ~ 0.34mm
M = Medium nib width: 0.34mm ~ 0.44mm
B = Broad nib width: 0.44mm ~ 0.54mm
BB = Double Broad nib width: 0.66mm ~ 0.86mm
Some manufacturers have more subdivided nibs, such as EEF with thinner EF, 3B (Triple Broad) thicker than BB, and MF tips between F and M.
Although the definition of nib size is not the same for each brand (that is, the M tip of the M brand may be thicker or thinner than the P brand), but the width of the nib is mostly between 0.18mm and 0.86mm
In order to meet personal writing preferences, some manufacturers also have oblique pen tips, such as: OM = Oblique Medium OB = Oblique Broad OBB = Oblique Double Broad

When selecting a pen, if conditions permit, you can choose a gold pen. The nib type can be fully exposed. Because the gold pen is a high-end fountain pen, from the sleeve to the nib, the production is very fine, and its nib wear resistance is excellent. The reason for choosing the full-exposure type is that the flexibility of this pen tip is good. The large changes in strokes in writing can improve the expressiveness of creation.
Of course, not the more expensive and more expensive gold pens are suitable for us. For example, the world famous Parker Gold Pen is well-made and guaranteed for life, but its price is not acceptable to every author. Moreover, its nib is delicate and soft, suitable for writing lingering, uniform and thick letters, and it is not suitable for writing artistic Chinese characters, especially for beginners.
As for choosing the full exposure type, it is also my personal opinion. Calligraphers can also choose according to the needs of their habits or creative effects.
When buying a pen at a stationery store, first choose a type of pen according to your preferences and economic ability, and then make a specific selection. You can follow the steps below.
At first glance, there is no damage to the rod sleeve. The pen tip is the most important. It must be installed tightly and not loose. The size of the tip metal particles is basically the same. Then put it on the paper according to the writing posture and pause for a while, and check the size of the gap in the pen tip and the elasticity of the pen tip. Finally, you can fill the ink to see if there is any water leakage in the water storage sac or the piston barrel. Use the pen tip to lightly press the paper surface, no water should drip out. The effluent is smooth; write a few words according to your habit to see if the thickness of the line changes to meet your requirements.
It is impossible to choose a perfect fountain pen that fully meets your own requirements. This requires the author to use the selected fountain pen more often and practice it so that he can master it and be handy before he can create a good work.
Black pen calligraphy is generally used in black calligraphy. This kind of ink contains glue. The pen is not covered with a pen during use. It will easily condense when it is in contact with the air for a long time. It will block the tip of the pen, resulting in poor water flow and insufficient fluency. Little trouble. At this time, the pen should be cleaned and maintained.
The tip of most fountain pens can be removed completely. We can clean the nib of the nib with a soft brush and a watering can, but some pens cannot be disassembled or are afraid that the nib will be damaged during disassembly. At this time, you can put the pen in a clear water basin, rinse it repeatedly, wash the remaining ink, then rinse the nib with a watering can, and use a thin cotton thread to draw into the gap between the pen tip and the pen tip (not applicable to all-inclusive pens) Perform cleaning. It can also be cleaned. But sometimes the residual ink will block the fine seams on the pen tip, and it wo nt wash, and the blisters wo nt work.
When using a pen, in addition to regular cleaning, you should also pay attention to the following aspects: first, do not press the pen tip with excessive force; further, do not write on hard, rough objects; put on a pen cover after use , Can protect the pen tip from damage, and infuse high-quality ink, etc. These measures can protect your pen from damage, extend the service life, make it serve you in the best state, and create more and better hard pen calligraphy Works.

1 Maintenance of fountain pen nibs (1)

(1) Protect the surface of metal parts with a gold (platinum) layer to prevent hard metal parts from rubbing against each other, and avoid contact with acidic and alkaline solutions. Always wipe with a soft cloth to keep the pen body new.
(2) The dual-use structure of the ink bag of the water absorber, please use the ink bag first to keep the water flowing smoothly.

(3) Please use non-sedimentary ink when using the water absorber. Before calling the ink or disabling storage, wash the inside with clean water according to the ink absorption method, and dry the storage or call the ink.
(4) Do not suck the colloidal black ink to prevent blocking the writing structure and affecting the water output.
(5) Plastic parts must not be exposed to organic solvents such as high temperature (65 ° C) and alcohol.
(6) The writing structure should not be disassembled by yourself, so as not to lose or damage the parts.
(7) Use of ink bag and water absorber:
A. Replace the ink sac: Remove the old ink sac and push the new ink sac firmly into the front of the fountain pen. The spare ink sac can be placed in the pen shaft in the direction shown in the figure.
B. Insert rotary water absorber: push it into the front end of the fountain pen with force, then rotate the end of the water absorber, first rotate counterclockwise until the air is discharged, and then rotate clockwise to suck the ink.
C. Insert the pressure spring type water absorber: push it hard into the front end of the fountain pen, and then move the spring sheet to suck the ink.

2 Maintenance of fountain pen nibs (2)

To keep your pen as new as ever and write smoothly, you need to know how to maintain it. But remember, no matter how important the maintenance work is, it also needs the support of personal habits.
(1) Regular cleaning, normal use should be every three months (also every ten and a half months, every month or so, etc .. Wash thoroughly with warm water once to keep the ink running smoothly. Of course, if you feel that your It is worth washing with Perrier distilled water for better results. The method is as follows:
Use a water-absorbing pen for cleaning, prepare a cup of clean warm water (because the heated water is less chlorine), repeat the ink-in action, inhale and release the warm water until the released warm water is no longer turbid, and then use tissue Wipe dry (Some people say that it is best to soak it in warm water overnight. It is also necessary. For pen models that only use cassette ink, the front rod should be rinsed under the faucet. After cleaning, wipe the pen with tissue paper. can.
Note: If the color changes or the water is out of order when writing, please repeat the above action. If the situation still does not improve, you can send the pen for repair.
(2) In order to avoid the deterioration of the parts and ink of the pen, the pen should be placed in a cool place, not in a high temperature place.
(3) Because the design of the pen tongue and pen tip is related to the ink composition, it is recommended to use original ink, and avoid mixing the two inks (the original ink must be removed when changing the ink color); avoid using more than one Years of ink.
(4) During use, the pen cap should be put on the pen shaft smoothly, on the one hand, it can prevent the pen from rolling down, and on the other hand, even if it falls, it will not be broken by the tip of the pen because it is light and heavy; Cover the pen cap, even if it only takes a few minutes. This will prevent the ink from drying out and solidifying quickly in the pen, resulting in poor water discharge. Most of the pen jams are caused by this reason. Don't be lazy.
(5) When writing, some manuscript paper should be placed under the paper to enhance the flexibility of the pen tip and reduce friction. Do not write on hard materials such as metal to prevent damage to the pen tip.
(6) When the pen is not used for a long time (more than one month), it should be thoroughly washed and dried with warm water before drying, so as not to dry the ink and even cause corrosion damage.
(7) The correct way to insert the ink Rotate the water-absorbing piston rod at the end of the pen as far as possible.
Put the pen tip in the ink and completely drown the pen tip to avoid inhaling air.
After sucking the ink, release the pen with the pen point down to release six to eight drops of ink.
Tighten the piston rod with the pen tip facing upwards to allow the ink remaining in the pen tongue to flow back to the ink tank.
Wipe the nib and around the pen with tissue paper to complete the ink filling procedure.
(8) The close contact between the pen tip and the pen tongue often accumulates some cotton dust due to frequent use. At this time, you can use a soft brush to gently remove it. Do not use excessive force, which may cause damage to the pen tip.
(9) Generally speaking, everyone's writing strength, pen angle, and posture of holding the pen are many different, so it is best to avoid lending your pen to others.

Cleaning of fountain pen nibs

Take out the ink bag or ink absorber, and immerse the pen tip and the tip of the fountain pen in warm water until the stains are softened.
After inserting the water absorber, immerse the pen tip in warm water, then hold the end of the rotary water absorber and turn it counterclockwise or clockwise (the pressure spring type water absorber is a continuous pressure spring leaf) until the water becomes clear, Wipe dry with a soft cloth before use.
Remember to clean and maintain regularly, usually at least once a month. It can be washed with warm water, and it is also important to choose high-quality ink.
Precious pens are also good with a pen case. The selection and maintenance of pens is an important tool in hard pen calligraphy creation. It is like a gun in a soldier's hand. The writing performance of the pen directly affects the creator's mood and expressive ability in creation. Imagine a fountain pen with stagnant water and sharp nib. In the writing, the phenomenon of scratching the paper and stopping the water in the middle will definitely affect the author's creative mood. How can it be possible to create a good work?
"Fu Shanshu is a good pen and a good tool for disturbing good work. It is quick and easy to use. He is the one who does not choose the pen and is the best." The selection and use of their own tools by ancient scholars is very meticulous; similarly, the choice and use of their own creative tools by today's hard pen calligraphers should not be very casual. The above are some of my experience and methods for choosing and maintaining pens in use. I hope that they can serve as a reference for hard pen lovers.
