How Do I Choose the Best Infrared Adapter?

Infrared adapter refers to the device that uses infrared technology to realize data exchange and transmission between various electronic devices. Generally, it refers to external products.

Infrared adapter

IrDA is the abbreviation of Infrared Data Association. At present, many mobile phones, handheld computers and other products on the market have the function of data exchange with computers. In addition to using conventional wired connections, infrared connection technology is more commonly used. If the device already has an infrared connection, it can be used after simple settings. However, some old computers do not have an infrared interface. Not only that, even some newly launched low-end notebook computers do not have preset infrared data transmission, which limits the infrared transmission. To solve this problem, in fact, it can be achieved through an infrared adapter. When the infrared adapter is installed, the user's computer can exchange data with other devices with infrared transmission capabilities. However, due to the characteristics of infrared, its wireless working distance is only about 2, 3 meters, and the transmission angle is only 30 degrees.
The IrDA infrared connection technology, which is currently widely used, was proposed by the organization. So far, there have been more than 50 million IrDA-enabled devices worldwide. IrDA is a technology that utilizes infrared for point-to-point communication, and its corresponding hardware and software technologies are relatively mature. In terms of communication speed, the current maximum speed standard of IrDA 1.1 is 4Mbps. At the same time, the point of interface alignment must not exceed 30 ° in point-to-point communication. However, although IrDA technology eliminates the cable, there are still many inconveniences to use. Not only the communication distance is short, but also it must be directly aligned on the line of sight without any obstruction in the middle. In addition, IrDA technology is limited to connecting between two devices and cannot connect multiple devices at the same time.
For the infrared adapter to work properly under Windows XP, three services must be enabled:
1. Remote Procedure Call (RPC) provides an endpoint mapper and other RPC services.
2.Infrared Monitor supports the infrared devices installed on this computer and detects other infrared devices within the effective range.
3.Terminal Services allows multiple users to connect and control one machine, and display desktops and applications on remote computers. This is the infrastructure for remote desktops (including remote desktops for administrators), fast user conversion, remote assistance, and terminal servers.
