What are the benefits of MKV format?
Matroska format is a multimedia container envelope for files, sound and subtitles. The whole CD or DVD fits in a single file. Matroska file extension is MKV; For sound only MKA and only for subtitles, MKS. The MKV format has many advantages over competing containers such as Interleave (AVI), Apple® QuickTime® MOV, Moving Pictures Experts Group (MPEG) and more.
While each of the container formats used today meets some or even many functions required in the container format, the matroska focuses on the standard that encounters and distinguishes it from virtually all others. Built on EBML (expandable binary meta tongue), is highly flexible to satisfy future needs.
The first advantage of the MKV format is that it is open source, which makes the code freely available to developers around the world and the public. Most other container formats contain mostly proprietary code, developed by the original company and licensthe parties. Open source programs probably have a higher potential for more creative solutions and wider implementation.
MKV format supports offers such as DVDs, chapters and more sound flows to include audio tracks in different languages. Like DVDs, you can choose a language of your choice and create a creator included several options.
Soft subtitles are also supported in MKV format. The soft subtitle is a separate footprint subtitle in the container that the user can turn off or on. If you have ever downloaded the AVI file with unnecessary subtitles and you could not turn them off, you will appreciate this feature.
MKV may contain variable bitrate audio and variable video Plus compression B-S-Frame. Unlike most other containers, however, it also supports virtually any video format, includingmpeg-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, MPEG-4 Part 2 (H.263), MPEG-4 Part 10/Advanced KOVideo dining (AVC) /H.264, Windows® Media Video (WMV), Realvideo and more.
MKV format also supports virtually any sound format, including lossless sound, such as FLAC, and sound containers like OGG. It also supports Speex, a loss -making format for compressing sound speech. Matroska's design team is convinced that future sound and video formats will also be supported, thanks to the MKV EBML Foundation.
Not every audio player supports MKV files. VLC player, free and open source, cross platform audio and video player, supports MKV format without the need for plugins or special codecs. Mastroska owns Coreplayer Pro and Mobile are other options. Microsoft® players based on DirectShow® can play MKV files with a combined community codec (CCCP) installed. The full list of players, codecs and plugins that support MKV is available on the Matroska website on the “Downloads” link.
Support for mkv with tAké spreads offline. Manufacturers like Samsung® and LG® have already create specific high -resolution TV models and Bluray® players with MKV streaming.
