What are the connections between remote sensing and image processing?

The use of remote sensing and image processing is a means to obtain information from a distance about the object and create its image. Air sensors and cameras on aircraft, satellites and spacecraft collect data by measuring how radiation light signals - called electromagnetic radiation - interact with the Earth's surface. This data is used by the image processor to create scientific charts, geographical maps and photographs of air survey.

When electromagnetic radiation or light radiation hits the surface of the object, it can be discouraged or absorbed. Electromagnetic radiation can be reflected at an angle in specular reflection or dispersed into many rays in diffuse reflection. The absorbed electromagnetic radiation changes into thermal energy that increases the surface temperature of the building. Remote sensing devices detect how electromagnetic radiation is reflected or absorbed and converts it into data that turns into a digital image processor.

Electromagnetic radiationIt can be detected by a camera sensitive film or electronic sensors. The light sensitive film is treated with a photo-reactive solution that reacts chemically when the light hits it to create a picture. Electronic sensors record electromagnetic radiation levels and transmit them as data. The data is placed in a two -dimensional grid of numbers in the shape of a rectangle called a grid, which consists of square units called pixels or cells. Each number in the pixel represents a different level of light brightness.

Image processors use this data called raw data, to fix any distortion that could be present in the picture. Distortion may be from the device processing or phenomenon in an environment. Radiometric correction repairs the uneven sensor response in the figure. Geometric correction uses information to repair distortion in the image caused by the rotation of the TZEM.

objects have unique spectral signatures or spectral reflectivity. Scientists use spectral signatures to detect dry soil, vegetation and water bodies. Images created by remote sensing and image processing are used to predict the weather and to create topographic maps. The mining and geology fields use remote sensing and image processing to search for ores and oil.
