What Is a IEC Socket?
Socket, also known as power socket, switch socket. Socket refers to a socket that has one or more circuit wiring pluggable through which various wirings can be inserted.
- Classified by purpose :
- 1.Use first
- In order to further regulate indoor wiring, reduce safety hazards and waste of repeated disassembly, and work with enterprises to create a consumer environment that is assured by consumers and has a good market order, the National Assembly Electrical and Intelligent Cooperation Alliance invites electrical experts to jointly launch "Electrical Appliances Safely Home The series suggested that consumers should be provided with detailed and effective knowledge from various aspects such as material selection, wiring, switch and socket design, telephone network and TV line design, and guide consumers to choose a home improvement company that suits them and how to communicate with designers during the home improvement process.
- Although the switch socket is not a "big piece" like a home appliance, it is related to the daily safety of the family and is the first line of defense to protect the home's electrical safety. Therefore, you must not be sloppy when choosing a switch socket. Electrical experts especially reminded that different places are equipped with different types of switches and sockets. Families with small children, in order to prevent children from touching the socket with their fingers or metal objects, you should choose a safety socket with a safety baffle.
- With the popularity of household appliances, the number of electrical outlets in the home has gradually increased. But if not installed properly, it will become a "stealth bomb" buried in the wall. Relevant survey data from the Ministry of Public Security shows that among the cumulative fire accidents in China in the past 10 years, fires caused by short circuits such as power outlets, switches, and circuit breakers accounted for nearly 30% of the total, ranking first in all types of fires.
- Position too low
- When many households install the socket, they feel that it is too high to be aesthetically pleasing, and will be installed in a lower hidden place. But Institute of Electrical Engineering, Chinese Academy of Sciences
Socket purchase attention
- First, select channels
- Consumers should not be greedy for cheap when purchasing power outlets. It is better to buy them from regular large chain stores such as supermarkets, hypermarkets or electrical appliances stores, and keep their shopping vouchers.
- Look at the appearance
- The style and color of the switch should match the overall style of the room. For example, the overall color of the interior decoration of the living room is light, so dark switches such as black and brown should not be used. And the packaging of qualified sockets has complete manufacturer and product information, and some unqualified sockets are poorly packaged, lacking the most basic manufacturer and product information, especially the production date on the product packaging, and many poor-quality socket products are not marked with the production date on the packaging. This is often an unqualified outlet. In addition, the qualified socket shell panel has fine workmanship, no burrs on the shell and the jack side, the jack size is symmetrical and uniform, and the poor quality socket shell has rough workmanship.
- Third, feel
- It can be distinguished from four aspects: weight, repeatedly pressing the switch, trial insertion and withdrawal, and pulling the power cord:
- 1. Weight: There are many copper wires, thick copper sheets, and solid plastic shells in the sockets that meet the national standards. Therefore, the weight is heavier, and unqualified sockets will obviously feel much lighter.
- 2. Press the switch repeatedly: You can repeatedly press the socket switch several times, and the qualified socket opens and closes freely and the sound is crisp; unqualified sockets feel stiff and easy to get stuck.
- 3. Test insertion and extraction force: Not only does the qualified socket have a moderate and flexible feel for each hole, and the insertion and removal feel of each jack is the same; the unqualified socket is too loose or too tight, with poor elasticity and easy to loose. , Each hole can also obviously feel different.
- 4. Pull the power cord: The power cord of the qualified socket feels soft and hard, and the connection with the socket is solid and reliable; the power cord of the unqualified socket feels soft, is not firmly connected to the socket, and is easy to pull off.
- Fourth, look at the brand
- Encourage everyone to choose well-known brands. Because the quality of the switch is related to the normal use of the appliance and even the convenience of life. Many dealers in the interview have expressed the same view, that is, many small manufacturers of switches or sockets are very unreliable, it will not take long, and frequent replacement is obviously very troublesome.
- Five, look at services
- Whenever possible, go to a specialty store or point of sale designated by a regular manufacturer to purchase, and ask for a shopping invoice, so as to ensure that you can enjoy future after-sales service.
- Six, look at the logo
- Pay attention to the signs on the base of the switch and socket: including Great Wall Certification (ccee) and rated current and voltage.
- Seven, see the standard
- Select GB2099.3-2008 standard production. On June 1, 2010, the relevant state departments promulgated the new national standard, and began to enforce it, explicitly prohibiting the production of universal sockets. The new national standard requires the production of two-pole and three-pole sockets in a separate combination (commonly known as a new five-hole socket). The socket of this socket has a larger contact area with the socket and a closer contact, reducing the potential for electric shock.
Socket selection note
- 1. The power socket shall be a product qualified by the relevant national product quality supervision department.
- 2. Safety sockets should be used for power sockets in houses, and splash-proof sockets should be used for wet places such as bathrooms;
- 3. The rated current of the power socket should be greater than 1.25 times the rated current of the known equipment. Generally, the rated current of a single-phase power socket is 10A, and the dedicated power socket is 16A. The power distribution circuit and power connection method of special high-power household appliances should be selected according to the actual capacity;
- 4. For the convenience of connection, the number of combined sockets is preferably two, and the maximum (including switches) is not more than three;
- 5. For household appliances with a danger of electric shock when plugged in, a socket with a switch to disconnect the power should be used.
- 6, in a relatively humid place, the socket should be installed with a waterproof box. [2]
Note for socket installation
- 1. The installation height of the socket should be installed according to the design requirements when the design has provisions; when the design is not clear, it should generally meet: the socket with the safety door is not lower than 0.3M; the socket without the safety door is not lower than 1.8M. It is recommended to buy sockets with security doors whenever possible, as the price is not much different.
- 2. Use well-sealed waterproof and splash-proof sockets in the bathroom or other humid places. (Note: The socket with a safety door is a plastic baffle (safety door) in front of the metal reed of the jack on the basis of the general socket. A three-hole socket, when the plug is inserted, the grounding post head (slightly longer) is inserted into the hole first. The mechanism inside the socket opens the other two holes. The two-hole socket must be inserted into the socket head at the same time. The safety door can be opened to prevent young children from inserting metal objects by mistake.)
- 3. When the socket is installed, its panel should be straight and close to the wall. And the wiring (phase) should comply with: single-phase two-hole socket, the right or upper hole facing the socket is connected to the phase wire (fire wire), the left or lower hole is connected to the neutral wire; single-phase three-hole socket, facing the right of the socket The hole is connected to the phase wire (L, live wire), the left hole is connected to the neutral wire (N), and the upper hole is grounded (PE).
