What is a Moving Walkway?

A moving walkway is a fixed electric drive device with a circular (plate or belt) walkway used to transport passengers horizontally or at an inclination angle not greater than 12 °. Moving walks are suitable for places where people flow, such as stations, terminals, shopping malls, airports, exhibition halls, and stadiums. Appeared in the early 20th century. The structure is similar to the escalator, which is mainly composed of two parts: the movable road and the handrail. Generally, the moving road surface does not form a step shape even when it is inclined.

A passenger conveyor refers to a fixed electric drive device for transporting passengers horizontally or at an inclination angle of not more than 12 ° with a circular (plate or belt) walkway.
It is suitable for places where people flow, such as stations, terminals, shopping malls, airports, exhibition halls and stadiums. Appeared in the early 20th century.
Structure and
According to the structure, it can be divided into stepping moving walks (similar to plate conveyors), belt moving walks (similar to belt conveyors), and double-line moving walks. In order to achieve the purpose of universality and economy with escalator parts, a step structure and the same handrail structure are often used. Handrails should run synchronously with the active pavement to ensure passenger safety. The moving speed of the moving walkway, the width of the road surface, and the conveying capacity are all similar to the escalator, and the maximum inclination angle generally does not exceed 12 °.
1. Classified by armrest decoration
1) Fully transparent: refers to the sidewalk made of fully transparent glass. The shape of the glass used in the baseboard can be further divided into curved glass and flat glass.
2) Opaque: refers to a moving walkway made of opaque metal or other materials. Since the armrest belt bracket is fixed on the upper part of the baseboard, and the armrest belt is circulated on the rail of the armrest bracket, the opaque type has better stability than the fully transparent type. Mainly used in subways, stations, docks and other high-traffic moving sidewalks.
3) Translucent: refers to the handrail wallboard is translucent, such as the use of translucent glass and other materials.
As far as handrail decoration is concerned, the fully transparent glass wainscot has a certain strength, and its thickness should not be less than 6mm. In addition, the fully transparent glass wainscot has good decorative effect. Sidewalks account for the vast majority.
2. Classification of moving walkways by tread structure
1) Pedal type: passenger sidewalks are moving walkways made of metal or other materials with cogged plates on the surface.
2) Tape type: Passengers stand on a moving walkway with continuous steel belts covered with rubber layers.
Tape-type moving walkways operate in a balanced manner, but they are more expensive to manufacture and use, making them suitable for moving walkways with high speeds over long distances. More common are pedal-type moving walks.

The characteristics of the RX moving walkway are that it can meet the needs of large passenger traffic, as well as occasions where shopping trolleys in the supermarket frequently move back and forth. Therefore, its objects are mainly various types of supermarkets and similar occasions. Upstairs and downstairs feel like walking flat.
Regulations for supervision and inspection of moving walks:
The first is to strengthen
1.Select according to the conditions of use
Generally, the moving sidewalks used in subways, stations, airports, and terminals with concentrated traffic should be public transportation types, while ordinary types can be used for shops and buildings. However, because the number of moving walkways in shopping malls or general buildings in China is usually small, it is recommended to use public transport-type moving walkways in some shopping malls or buildings with relatively large pedestrian flows.
2. There should be product identification
The moving sidewalk shall be marked with the name of the manufacturer, the product model mark and the serial number in a conspicuous position at at least one entrance.
3. Check the safety height above the steps, pedals or tape
There should be a vertical net passing height of not less than 2.3m above the steps or tape of the moving walkway. This clear height should be along the entire travel of the pedal or tape to ensure safe and unobstructed passage of passengers on the moving sidewalk.
4. Lighting requirements for moving walks
There should be sufficient lighting on the moving walkway and its surroundings, especially near the comb plate. The illumination on the ground at the entrance or exit of the indoor or outdoor moving walkway should be at least 50lx or 15lx, respectively [1] .
