What is the Scart connector?
The SCART connector is a type of cable used to connect sound visual equipment such as TVs, DVD players and the like. SCART means Syndicat Francais des Constructeurs d'Appareils Radio et Television , because the industrial standard was determined by the original interface produced by the French company. The end of the SCART connector has 21 pins, so it is also referred to as the 21-pin Euroscart connector.
Scart was introduced in 1977 for use with TVs. It works by collecting an analog signal to one type of connector for use with all sound visual devices. Before the SCART connectors, the RF antenna was used to provide an analog signal to the TV.
During the 80s, the Scart connector has been upgraded so that it can carry S-Video signals and analog signals. This meant it could be used as a two -way connector between TV and other sound visual equipment. Current day SCART connectors can carry RGB video, composite,Digital, analog, S-Video and stereo audio input and output.
SCART connector provides physical and electrical connections between two pieces of sound visual equipment. Each equipment has a female 21-bike interface where a cable with male plugs can connect to the device. 21. PIN is not actually used to transmit signals, but as a soil for contact. No matter what end of the SCART connector is connected to what equipment as pins are the same for connecting and down.
Not all signals travel in both directions along the SCART cable. Composite video, control signals and stereo sound can travel in two way, while RGB signals only travel in the direction. Most of the TVs that use the PAL standard are equipped with the SCART interface, as well as all other pieces of sound visual equipment. It is one of the most common connectors for this type of equipment and is used in the wholeEurope and in other countries.
Although all SCART connectors have 21 pins, not all pins are used all the time. Depending on what is connected, different combinations of pins are used. Each pin of 20 pins, without the inclusion of the ground, has a specific signal with it. Also the transmitted signal will affect which pin is used and also the role of PIN. This means that there will be a noticeable difference in the sound and image shown on TV depending on the signal broadcast.
