What is the IR keyboard?

There are two different devices that can be described as an infrared (IR) keyboard. One type of IR keyboard is similar to design and function as a traditional keyboard, although infrared light is used to transfer data to a computer rather than a hard connection. These keyboards can be used with computers on desktop computers (PCS), laptops and even personal digital assistants (PDA). The second type of IR keyboard uses a visible laser to project the virtual keyboard over a flat surface. The invisible infrared sensor beam then monitors movement over this surface and converts it to keyboards. It is usually cheaper than other wireless methods, but has a range and restrictions on sight. The IR keyboard, which uses this technology to communicate with the computer, must usually be up to 30 feet (9 meters) of the receiver, although many devices are less powerful. This is sometimes possible to use a mirror or other extension device to do a restriction of vision line, although it is often not a problem using an IR keyboardnormal circumstances.

Some computers are equipped with infrared sensor ports, although this is not a common option. In order to use a keyboard that communicates via IR connection, a type of peripheral receiver is usually required. These receivers are often connected via a universal serial bus (USB) and some are designed specifically for pairing with a certain combination of IR or keyboard keyboard and mouse keyboard.

IR keyboards that are designed for use with PDA, smartphones and other similar devices are often foldable or folded for easy transport. Instead of a simple IR transmitter, this type of keyboard usually has a cradle or a rocking arm. The cradle or swing is designed to hold a PDA or smartphone, so the tsensor IR on the device will be sorted with an IR transmitter on the keyboard. Some of them can also adapt to allow either orientation toa portrait or landscape for a PDA or smartphone.

The second type of keyboard that uses infrared light is usually called a projection keyboard. These devices use visible laser light to project the image on the keyboard over a flat surface. This space is also a bathing in invisible infrared light, which is able to measure the movement of the typista through the keys. This movement is translated to keyboards and sent to a computer as well as inputs from a conventional keyboard.
