What is digital HDTV?
Digital television is the standard of broadcasting that uses digital signals to transmit TV programs. In the past, most television signals have been broadcast in analog; Digital change meant better sound quality and videos for all, not only for those who use cable or satellite digital television services. Digital HDTV, or high -resolution digital television, is the next step on the digital broadcast spectrum that offers sharper images and excellent SDTV sound (TV standard definition).
While all HDTV broadcasts are digital, not all digital broadcasts are HDTV. The difference between digital and digital HDTV is in higher resolution configuration. In fact, HDTV has almost double the NTSC standard resolution and the HDTV image is sharper than the standard digital TV image. In the US, the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) for digital transmissions requires only digital television and does not specify that broadcasting must be digital HDTV.
DigitalHDTV is available in the air and through cable and satellite service providers. For air broadcasting, the antenna must be compatible with a digital signal. Digital receiver or converter is required to see digital broadcasts using traditional analog antennas. Analog or NTSC, TVs require a digital set-top box to translate a digital TV signal.
TVs capable of displaying digital HDTV have different levels of resolution. Digital TV sets are listed in numbers that refer to the amount of rows of resolution - the more lines, the better the image. For example, 720p means 720 lines and "P" is for progressive scanning; 1080p is another type with 1080 horizontal lines and progressive scanning. The next version is 1080, which is the same line as 1080p, but with interlaced scanning.
Almost all of the TVs sold today are digital. ForBecause not all signals are HDTV, not all TVs are capable of digital HDTV. Some TVs are standard digital TV (SDTV). Although SDTV will be able to display the HDTV show, it will not be displayed in high definition. It is useful to know the difference when buying digital TV.
Soon in the era of digital TV, several cable channels have created spin-off channels that show only programs that are in HD. Since digital conversion, there are more programs on conventional HDTV channels. The network usually specifies the difference with the "HD" displayed on the screen and informs their viewers.
