What is a Tycoon?

The word magnate originally meant a gang leader or a wealthy man who was known as a hegemon. But its origin is very interesting. In the middle of the 19th century, the Englishman John Henson invented a horse carriage called "Henson". This type of two-wheeled pony car driven behind the car entered Shanghai and was called " Huntsman carriage. " The first Chinese to own such a carriage was the owner of the "Report" Shi Liangcai, and it cost hundreds of thousands of silver to buy from a German. Therefore, the people in Shanghai at that time referred to the people who owned this carriage as Tycoon, it is still used today.

Du Yuesheng

"Shanghai tycoon" Du Yuesheng was born on the Lunar New Year's Day on July 15, 1888, and died on July 14, 1951, on the Lunar New Year's Day. Before Hong Kong's death, he hoped to bury the bones back to his hometown of Shanghai Gaoqiao, but still hasn't done so.
Father Du Wenqing was named Yuesheng because his son was born on the Mid-Yuan Festival. Du Yuesheng later made his mark and became a sensation at sea, Zhang Taiyan cited the scriptures to propose that he be renamed as Luan and became Yuesheng. Du Yuesheng is an orphan and started apprenticeship at a fruit shop in Shanghai at the age of 14. He played with a fruit knife so divinely that he often cut the broken fruit and sold it. After setting up their own stalls, they mainly sold Laiyang pears, so everyone in the circle called him "Fruit Yuesheng" or "Laiyang Pears".
Enter the gang
Du Yuesheng was among a group of rogues. If he had not encountered Chen Shichang, a "blessed man," he would have been a hooligan in his life at best. Chen Shichang was not considered a prominent figure in the gang. He was just a small character, but he was senior enough to open a church, and Du Yuesheng worshipped at his door. The Youth Gang was like a key to Shanghai, and Du Yuesheng pushed in the door, which opened a legendary life.
There are tens of thousands of youngsters in the Gang, so why did Shanghai have completed Du Yuesheng? This is of course Du Yuesheng's excellence. First, he has a mind; second, he has a sense of morality; third, he loves face. He has the brain to allow him to subdue the "Little Eight-Party Party" and organize the "Sanxin Company" to make a huge fortune. Lectures will allow him to win the trust of his friends around him; love for his face will allow him to appear in the public as a good man Establish the status of people at sea. After Du Yuesheng became famous, he always wanted to bleach and wash the bottom, so he let his people call him "Mr. Du" to increase the cultural atmosphere.
Despite the above three advantages, Du Yuesheng's fortunes still depend on luck. Du Yuesheng was led by the Chinese ambassador Huang Zhenyi and entered the Tongfuli Huang Mansion in the French Concession, full of anticipation and terror. Du Yuesheng was capable and savvy, and was quickly appreciated by Jin Rong. What made Du Yuesheng successful was Lin Guisheng, the woman behind Jin Rong. Once, Lin Gui became ill and needed someone who was full of yang to serve, Du Yuesheng volunteered to take the burden. This woman not only loves smoking big cigarettes, but also snatches big cigarettes to make money. Whenever Jin Rongrong inquires that there are opiums on board, she tells her the news. During a soil grabbing (opium) operation, A Guang, the leader, shared two packs of opium with everyone, and Du Yuesheng also participated in it. Afterwards, he informed Lin Guisheng of the incident. Lin Guisheng was furious. After Jin Rongrong came out to drive A Guang away, Lin Guisheng was so angry that he believed that the death penalty was avoidable and the living crime was difficult to forgive. Du Yuesheng caught up with A Guang, understood Xiao Li, moved with affection, said the other party's righteousness, and cut his finger. With this, Du Yuesheng gained Lin Guisheng's attention.
Independent portal
Du Yuesheng, a self-supporting portal, has contracted the Gongxingji casino under the concession of Jinrong, responsible for collecting monthly interest. In response to the "squashing pig" wind in the casino, Du Yuesheng settled the "little eight-party party" on the basis of a profit, letting them become robbers to protect them. The "Sanxin" company formed with Jinrong Rong and Jin Tingyi (later joined Zhang Xiaolin) is the firmest step for Du Yuesheng to gain a firm foothold. This company is selling real estate on the surface, but it is actually selling opium. At this time, Jin Rong was brought up by a playmaker named Lu Lanchun and was abducted by a group of people by Lu Xiaojia, the son of Zhejiang Governor Lu Yongxiang. Although Jin Rongrong was rescued peacefully without losing face under the struggle between Du Yuesheng and Zhang Xiaolin, his psychology has been severely hit, and his retreat is gradually emerging. In return, Jinrong Rong built two houses for Du and Zhang on Huagebang Road. Since then, No. 216 Huagebang Road has become a bustling Du Mansion.
Relying on the rising status of rivers and lakes, Du Yuesheng began to be dissatisfied with his identity as a hooligan tycoon. He used the power of the public to use various means to intervene in major financial industries everywhere, and won many titles of "Chairman"; Zhejiang In the flood, Sun Baoqi initiated a donation activity for the Relief Folk Relief Society, Du Yuesheng donated 10,000 yuan; workers in the French Concession Hydropower Company went on strike due to unfair treatment, and Du Yuesheng stepped in to mediate the labor wave; in order to connect well-known and powerful people, Du Yuesheng responded to the request He spends a lot of money on soil, and to the common people, he goesssip about it. When there is no money, he has no money left, and when there is money, he has little left.
Relationship with the KMT
In 1927, the Northern Expedition was in full swing. Chiang Kai-shek was hesitant about the rapid expansion of the Communist forces and intended to "clean up the party." In March, Chen Qun and Yang Hu invited the three tycoons in Shanghai to jointly plan for the establishment of the "Joint Progress Meeting". On the evening of April 11, Du Yuesheng invited Chairman Wang Shouhua of the Shanghai Workers' Union to Du Mansion. The "Big Four King Kong" who had been waiting for him immediately killed Wang and drove to Fenglin Bridge to bury him. The 4.12 coup officially kicked off. Later, tens of thousands of members of the "Joint Progress Society" slammed the workers' picket team headquarters and the Chaozhou Guild Hall. The Communist Party in Shanghai suddenly shrank.
In 1931, Du Yuesheng's popularity reached its peak. In June of this year, the Du Family Temple opened in Pudong Gaoqiao. On the day of the opening of the ancestral temple, celebrities with high weights and deep depths such as Chiang Kai-shek, Zhang Xueliang, Zhang Taiyan, etc. were presented with plaques and inscriptions. The ancestral hall was celebrated for three days. Every day, there were nearly a thousand banquets, and there were performances by Pei Lan masters such as Mei Lanfang. A gangster who started as a rogue and founded China Exchange Bank, still secretly used various deceitful methods to cleverly grab the gangster, and was able to be sought after by both black and white people. Rao Hanxiang, secretary of Li Yuanhong, wrote a couple of gifts for Du Yuesheng: three thousand passengers under Chunshen's door, and five feet south of Xiaodu City.
Du Yuesheng not only talked about morale, but also bone spirit. He did not behave like a traitor like Zhang Xiaolin. After the Japanese troops invaded the Northeast, Du Yuesheng continued to raise money to support the Northeast Volunteers. During the January 28th Incident in Shanghai, he participated in the "Shanghai Anti-enemy Assistance Conference" and supported the 19th Army against Japan. When he learned that the Japanese soldiers infiltrated the French concession and were about to attack the national army, Du Yuesheng vowed to burn the jade at all costs, forcing the Japanese soldiers to withdraw from the French concession. In the outbreak of the Anti-Japanese War in 1937, Du Yuesheng actively responded to the government's financial policy at the time and also donated a large amount of property to support the Anti-Japanese War.
Evaluation
Du Yuesheng, everyone who comes to Shanghai will hear him, and everyone who writes in Shanghai will write about him. He is a history. The ups and downs of his life reflect the eccentricities of the times. The commentary to "History of the Republic of Cambridge" states that Du Yuesheng is the most difficult but most influential Chinese in Shanghai.
His daughter Du Meiru said that when Du was seriously ill, he had asked Qian Yongming, editor-in-chief of the "News", to write a letter to Chairman Mao. Unfortunately, his friend was drunk and gave the letter to Chiang Kai-shek in error. If Du Zhen returned to the mainland in his later years and became a full-time official, history would not be the way we look now.
Du Yuesheng, the 23rd member of Gaoqiao Town, became known as Mr. Du. Now in history, he is the underworld leader.
Later life
When Shanghai fell, he arrived in Hong Kong. In Hong Kong, Du Yuesheng was still idle. He used his influence to remove many celebrities from the enemy area at the time, and prevented them from becoming Japanese or pseudo-puppet running dogs. At the same time, he also directed the cooperation in Shanghai Dai Jun's military commander assassinates traitors, including his deadly party, Zhang Xiaolin. After the fall of Hong Kong, Du Yuesheng arrived in Chongqing, founded Tongji Company, and traded barter between the KMT and the enemy-occupied areas, so that the Japanese army got the goods they needed. In 1945, the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Du Yuesheng originally thought that Chiang Kai-shek, who had been following him, would give him a good meal. Unfortunately, in order to elute his relationship with the underworld, Chiang no longer valued Du.
When the Kuomintang retreated to Taiwan, Du Yuesheng thought about it and chose Hong Kong as his refuge. Kennedy 18 became the dwelling of Du Yuesheng in the last three years of his life. He died here, eager to be buried in Takahashi, but unfortunately Keelung is still buried. How many years are there in 1931? Jin Rongrong died in Shanghai at the age of 86 until 1953, while Du Yuesheng closed the curtain one day before his 65th birthday.
There are four reasons for his desolation and early resignation.
First, the ingratitude of Chiang Kai-shek. Chiang Kai-shek once worshiped Golden Rong as a teacher, and Golden Rong also generously gave to Jiang. The relationship between Chiang and the gang was very close. In 1927, it was through Du Yuesheng and others who paid for guns and cannons and organized hundreds of thugs to set off from the French Concession before completing his Shanghai "Qing Party" plot. Since the January 28th Incident, Jiang believes that Du s support for the Anti-Japanese War has undermined his overall deployment, and has a deep interest in Du. In Chongqing, Jiang was deeply affected by Du s power and intentionally cut one or two to kill chicken police monkeys. ; In 1945, Du Manhuai returned to Shanghai with enthusiasm, hoping to go from low to high, and further enter and leave the career path, but Jiang shattered the dream of his mayor of Shanghai, and his disciple Wu Shaojie was a deputy mayor. But he did not buy his account at all; secondly, Du hoped to be the chairman of the Shanghai Senate, but this also failed to fulfill his wishes. After he was elected, he resigned immediately and gave it to Pan Gongzhan and Xu Jiyu who belonged to Jiang. ; While living in Hong Kong, although Chiang Kai-shek repeatedly invited him to Taiwan four times, it was apparently to prevent Du from being united into the CCP.
Du Yuesheng didn't want to go to Taiwan, but he left the country lowly. Moreover, after the victory of the Anti-Japanese War, Xuan Tiewu and Jiang Jingguo have classified Du's forces as the source of the disturbance of the market and public order, and even Du's powerful assistant Wan Molin and Du His son Du Weiping was arrested. The troubled world belonging to Du Yuesheng has passed. Du Yuesheng, who subsidized countless people throughout his life, always respected Chiang Kai-shek, but Chiang's actions made him chill. In his later years, Du Yuesheng would not be in a good mood whenever he thought of this person.
Second, asthma. The disease is fatal. In 1939, Du learned that Wang Zongwu's Gao Zongwu was interested anyway, so he flew to Chongqing to discuss with Chiang Kai-shek. When returning to the sea, I was chased by Japanese aircraft. Fortunately, the pilot drove up and down, and the entire crew saved their lives. However, Du Yuesheng couldn't withstand the bumps on the plane, especially the thin air at high altitude, which actually caused asthma. disease. It was Du's intermediary operation that successfully brought Gao Zongwu and Tao Xisheng to Hong Kong, and brought out the "Japanese and Wang secret treaty."
Third, superstition. Du Yuesheng is no exception. At that time, Du Yuesheng followed the Golden Wings to visit the City God Temple, and met a fortune teller monk who was very accurate about his future. Later, he was in charge of Li Yuanhong's security on the communist stage. He heard the doorman seeing several foxes rushing out of the communist stage And later, Golden Rong fell out of control. When Du got sick, he became more dependent on fortune telling. Although some fortune tellers clearly said something good to Du, Du did not believe that people would bring their own birthday characters to Taiwan, and let Taiwan s "June Interest Museum Master" count, "64 years old in Xin Yi , Tian Ke Di Chong will never get through. "
Fourth, ambition is no longer. At the most powerful time, Du's business card was densely filled with various titles, making friends and making money like flowing water, but before his death, he dictated his will, and only left a sum of more than 100,000 US dollars to his loved ones. After leaving Shanghai and those past days, who still believes that he can lay a new world like that year? The China Central Bank, which allowed him to stand on the table, could not move, and was still in Shanghai, which was within the sphere of influence of the Chinese Communist Party. Everything, like the cold wind sweeping the leaves, disappeared.
On August 7th, after Du Yuesheng handed over the funeral to Lu Jingshi, he quietly waited for the death to come. On August 16, Du Yuesheng, the product of a troubled world, passed away without hope.

Tycoon Golden Wing

Let's look at the "Rogue Tycoon" Golden Rong. In 1900, the French Concession expanded and it was decided to recruit Chinese for patrol. Once a framed painter, Jin Rong, who had been arrested for a while in Shanghai Jianmen, was immediately hired. Jinrong Rong was five big and three thick, but his brain was lively. He used "black eat black" to snatch informants, used thieves to catch and steal thieves to improve his prestige, and because of several major cases, he was promoted to inspector general of Chinese detectives. Since then, he has been daring and bold, and he calls himself "the emperor of the word generation". Since then, he has used his power to sell opium, set up casinos, run dog fields in partnership, etc., and has become the number one tycoon in Shanghai within a few years. Until his 60th birthday, he served as Inspector General, and the French Patrol House Police Department continued to hire him as a consultant.

Zhang Xiaolin

Zhang Xiaolin was nicknamed "Three Colors" and he was from Cixi, Zhejiang. In 1912, he went to Shanghai with the gangster Ji Yunqing to make ducks and sell tonics. He gradually became one of the leaders of the gang of French concessions. His business involved opium, gauze, transportation, banks, etc. After the fall of Shanghai, he organized the "New Asia Peace Promotion Association" to purchase and transport military supplies for the Japanese army. Later, he accepted the Japanese pseudo-appointment and was ready to serve as the pseudo-Zhejiang provincial governor. In August 1940, KMT secret agents bought out his bodyguard Lin Huai and was shot dead. This is how the movie is performed.
