How do I get library certification?
Every state in America and each country has its own requirements and specific courses and tests that need to be passed to obtain library certification. In most US states, the certification of teaching must be obtained by completing the courses accredited by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teachers' Education (NCATE). Another way to achieve this is to get a bachelor's degree in any subject and then take a master's course approved by the American Library (ALA). For example, in the UK and Australia, the requirements are similar in that the bachelor's degree in the field of science library and internship or bachelor's degree in any subject, as well as the master's degree in library science or related areas plus internship.
At this point, the librarian certification request is accepted in some countries, while others prefer other requirements such as teaching experience, over the approved of the application. A country like the United Kingdom and Ireland requires a certain number of years as a teacheň or trainee. This is especially true if the candidate is looking for a librarian at school. Countries such as Australia and Canada also require librarian membership. In Australia, future librarians must also become members of the Australian Library and Information Association and in Canada that they must join the Canadian Library Association.
In 2006, Ala created another way to receive a librarian for those who have three or more years of library experience, but do not yet have certified. This is called a certified public library administrator (CPLA). In some countries, a number of years in apprenticeship can automatically qualify a person for librarian certification.
Not all states require all employees to have a librarian certification. States like Massachusetts are merely asking for directors of libraries to havcertifications E while other states like Iowa require a certain number of KNihovers certified to obtain government funding. However, most schools prefer librarians who are certified and have pedagogical experience.
Given all deviations, it is recommended that anyone who wants to become a certified librarian in the US, contact the State Council for Education or visit ALA for State Requirements. The candidate must usually have a certification of teaching in any subject and take a course accredited ALA. This is usually followed by a test in the library media.
