Peking Union Medical College is the only national medical university directly under the National Health Committee of the People's Republic of China. It implements an integrated management system with the Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences. It is a national medical science academic center and Comprehensive scientific research institution. It is the country's first batch of pilot universities for education programs for outstanding doctors, and the country's first batch of world-class discipline construction universities. The Peking Union Medical College was founded by the Rockefeller Foundation in the United States in 1917. It opened an eight-year medical undergraduate program in October 1919. It is the earliest medical school in China with an eight-year clinical medicine specialty and nursing undergraduate education. The authorized degree-granting units authorized by the doctoral degree for the first-level disciplines and the master's degree for the first-level disciplines, and the official member units of the International Medical Scientific Research Organization, are reputed as "the hall of Chinese medicine".

The Peking Union Medical College campus is located in the Wangfujing area of Beijing. It was the Palace of the King of Yu in the Qing Dynasty and was later purchased by the Rockefeller Foundation. The palace-like campus and hospital building was completed in 1921. Elegant surroundings and classic-style architecture reveal a strong historical heritage.
