His father was a lawyer and his parents were Catholic. When Murray was young, he wanted to be a doctor in the future, but due to the influence of his family, he finally chose the profession of theology and became a famous American theologian and political thinker. Murray went to church school from high school to college. In 1938, he received a doctorate in theology from the Gregorian University of Rome. Since then, he has been a professor at the University of Maryland, Uddeske, until his death.

He also believes that the American tradition is valuable to the Roman Catholic tradition. Murray's views were severely criticized by the ultra-conservatives of the Roman Catholic Church. Facing his attack, Murray stated that it is not now necessary to harmonize Roman Catholicism with American democracy, but to discuss whether American democracy can be compatible with Roman Catholicism. Harmony. However, in any case, Murray's democratic religious views are clearly progressive among conservative Roman Catholics. He was universally welcomed in Protestant American society.
