What Does a Fiber Splicer Do?
The optical fiber fusion splicer is mainly used for the construction and maintenance of optical cables in optical communications, so it is also called optical cable fusion splicer. The general working principle is to use a high-voltage arc to melt the two fiber sections while using a high-precision motion mechanism to gently advance the two fibers into one, so as to achieve the coupling of the fiber mode field.
Optical fiber splicer
- Ordinary fiber fusion splicer refers to single-core fiber fusion splicer. In addition, there are special
- The most common single-core fiber fusion splicers are generally used in the same way:
- 1. Peeling
- Dissipative materials of optical fiber fusion splicer are discharged
- 1. After turning on the switch of the optical fiber fusion splicer, the screen is not bright, and after opening the draft shield, it is found that the horizontal lighting on the electrode holder is not bright.
- Solution:
- (1) Check if the power plug socket is properly inserted. If not, re-plug it.
- (2) Check whether the power fuse is disconnected. If it is broken, replace the spare fuse.
- 2. The optical fiber can be reset normally. When the gap is set, the screen becomes dark, there is no fiber image, and the screen display stops at "set gap".
- Solution:
- Check that the draft shield is in place or that the reeds are in good contact.
- 3. After turning on the optical fiber fusion splicer, Battery is exhausted appears on the bottom of the screen and the buzzer beeps continuously.
- Solution:
- (1) This phenomenon generally occurs when the battery is used for power supply, and only the power supply needs to be replaced.
- (2) Check if the power fuse box is tightened.
- 4. The fiber can be reset normally. When the gap is set, the fiber appears on the screen but stops, and the screen display stops at "set gap".
- Solution:
- (1) Press the "Reset" key to reset the system.
- (2) Open the draft shield and open the left and right pressure plates respectively. The following checks are performed in sequence:
- (3) Check for fiber breaks.
- (4) Check if the fiber cutting length is too short.
- (5) Check whether the fiber loading slot matches the optical fiber. And deal with it accordingly.
- 5. The optical fiber can be reset normally. When the gap is set, the optical fiber continues to move backward, and the screen displays "set gap" and "reinstall the fiber."
- Solution:
- It may be caused by excessive dust deposition on the eyepiece of the microscope in the optical system. Wipe the eyepieces of the horizontal and vertical microscopes with a cotton swab stick. If there is no obvious dust with your eyes, you can try again.
- 6. The optical fiber can be reset normally. When the gap is set, the "set gap" is displayed. After a period of time, the screen displays "reinstall the fiber".
- 7. In the automatic working mode, after pressing the "Auto" key, the gap can be set automatically, and coarse and fine calibration can be performed. However, when obvious dislocation is observed on the monitoring screen by the naked eye, the connection is started.
- Solution:
- Check whether there is any defect or dust on the image of the optical fiber to be connected. You can re-rub the optical fiber with alcohol-soaked cotton ball or remake the end face of the optical fiber according to the actual situation.
- 8. Press the "Heating" button, the heating indicator will go out soon after the light flashes and the buzzer will sound.
- Solution:
- (1) The optical fiber fusion splicer automatically checks whether the heater plug is effectively inserted. If it is not plugged in or plugged in, please plug it in.
- (2) When the heater is continuously heated for a long time, the heater will automatically turn off the heating after the thermal protection occurs. You can wait for some time before heating.
- 9. When the optical fiber is automatically calibrated, the optical fiber moves continuously in the up and down direction, and the screen display stops and then "calibrate".
- Solution:
- (1) Press the "Reset" key to reset the system.
- (2) Check whether the position deviation of the fiber end face in the Y / Z direction is less than 0.5 mm. If it is less, perform the following operations, otherwise return to the factory for repair.
- (3) Check if the bare fiber is clean. If it is not clean, handle it.
- (4) Clean the dust deposited in the V-shaped groove.
- (5) Tap the pressing plate with your finger to determine whether the pressing plate compacts the optical fiber. If it is not compacted, try again after processing.
- 10. The optical fiber can be reset normally. When the gap setting is performed, the "set gap" is displayed. After a period of time, the screen displays "the left fiber end face is unqualified."
- Solution:
- (1) Observe the optical fiber image on the screen with the naked eye. If the quality of the left fiber end face is really bad, you can re-make the fiber end face and try again.
- (2) Observe the optical fiber image on the screen with the naked eye. If the quality of the left fiber end face is acceptable, it may be because the value of the "end face angle" item is set to a small value. Make it big.
- (3) If the screen displays "Left fiber end face failed", the screen becomes dark and the display characters are white.
- (4) Check whether the windshield of the optical fiber fusion splicer is pressed effectively, otherwise, dispose of it.
- (5) Open the draft shield and check whether the two contact springs of the ceiling lamp on the draft shield are deformed.
- 11. The optical fiber can be reset normally, and the discharge time is too long when performing automatic connection.
- Solution:
- Enter the discharge parameter menu and check whether the effective discharge parameter is set. This phenomenon is caused by the effective setting of the discharge parameter.
- 12. When conducting discharge experiments, the position of the fiber gap is increasingly biased towards one side of the screen.
- Solution:
- This is because when the fiber fusion splicer performs a discharge experiment, the current and the arc position are adjusted at the same time. When the deposits on the electrode surface make the arc asymmetric on the electrode surface, the arc position will be shifted. Ignore it if it's not overly skewed. If the user thinks it needs to be dealt with, they can take the following measures:
- (1) Enter the maintenance menu and perform several "clean electrodes" operations.
- (2) Without damaging the electrode tip, use a single-sided razor blade to gently wipe in the direction of the electrode head, and then perform several "clean electrodes" operations.
- 13. When performing the discharge connection, the factory set (1 ~ 5) discharge programs are not available, and the overall is too large or too small.
- Solution:
- This is due to electrode aging, changes in the relative position of the fiber and the arc, or a large change in the operating environment. The processing is as follows:
- (1) Condition of electrode aging. Check the electrode tip for damage, if not, perform the "Clean Electrode" operation. If the electrode tip is damaged, refer to <Maintenance and Repair> and replace the electrode.
- (2) Changes in the relative position of the fiber and the arc. Enter the "Maintenance mode" menu, press "Arc position", open the draft shield to observe the relative position of the fiber and the arc. If the fiber is not in the middle of the power, you can perform several "clean electrode" operations, and then observe whether the relative position of the fiber and the arc changes If it does not change, it is a stable position.
- (3) The operating environment has changed significantly. The process is as follows:
- Carry out the discharge experiment until "moderate discharge current" for three to five consecutive times.
- Enter the discharge parameter menu and check the discharge current value.
- The overall translation current (pre-welding current, welding current, repair current), so that the value of "welding current" is "138 (0.1 mA)".
- Press the "Parameter" key to return to the first-level menu state.
- Take the current translation amount in 3> and modify the value of the "current deviation" item in the opposite direction.
- After confirming that there is no error, press the "confirm" key to store.
- Press the Parameter key to exit the menu state.
- 14. When performing multimode fiber splicing, bubbles always appear during the discharge process.
- Solution:
- This is mainly due to the larger core refractive index of the multimode fiber. The specific processing is as follows:
- (1) Using the factory-set multi-mode discharge program as a template, set the value of the "discharge program" item to less than "5" and confirm.
- (2) Perform a discharge experiment until three "moderate discharge currents" appear.
- (3) Perform multimode fiber splicing. If bubbles still appear, modify the discharge parameters. The modification process is as follows:
- Enter the discharge parameter menu.
- Increase the value of "pre-melt time" in 0.1s steps.
- If the fiber is still connected, continue to increase the value of "pre-melt time" until there is no bubble until it is connected (provided that the quality of the fiber end face meets the requirements).
- If the splicing process does not cause bubbles and the optical fiber changes the details, it is necessary to reduce the "pre-melting current".
